Nancy Horwick "Near and Far:
LandEscapes" at the Harbor Village Gallery
 
55 year celebration
The quiet observer translates to canvas in Nancy Horwick's "Near and Far: LandEscapes" solo show at the
Harbor Village Gallery.  The exhibit runs from January 18 to March 2, 2009. 
Artist Reception is Friday, January 23, 2009 from 5 - 8pm.
Horwick's painterly images are a friendly sigh of optimism. Horwick returns to the elegance and beauty
found in works of earlier masters, bringing a balance between the technical and emotional aspects of
artistic expression.

Teng Shu-Ming's solo exhibition, "Mist & Cloud" will be at the Buenaventura Gallery from Feb. 3 - Feb. 28, 2009.
Artist Reception is Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009 from 4 - 7 pm.
The "Mist & Cloud" is Teng's 12th solo exhibition.  Teng's paintings are steeped in Sumi ink and Chinese watercolor tradition that date back thousand of years.  However, the infusion of color adds a contemporary twist to her pieces.

Discovery Gallery
101 S. California St. (inside the Ventura Visitors & Convention Bureau)
Vonder Gray exhibition of paintings will be at the Discovery Gallery from Feb 5 to March 5, 2009.
Artist reception is Friday, Feb. 6 from 5 - 8 pm during First Friday Ventura Gallery Crawl.
Gray brings her appreciation and admiration for her natural surroundings to the canvas.  Offering insight to her muse, Vonder expresses "the thickness and texture of the paint and the energy that (goes) into its application, echo the textures and energies I find around water."
Amani J. Fliers "Best of Show" at the 23rd Annual Open Competition

Amani J. Fliers won "Best of Show" for "Genocide B4" at Buenaventura Gallery.
The exhibit runs through Saturday, Jan. 31.
Dennis Reed was the juror.
Other winners were Jack Halbert, David Blackburn, Bob Privitt, Agnete "Chippy" Scharling Todd and others.

Dorothy Hunter honored with Lifetime Achievement Award
Dorothy Hunter was honored with a "Lifetime Achievement Award" in the arts at the awards reception for the Open Competition.
Her name is on a permanent plaque located inside the gallery. Read more about Hunter.
BAA Member Tesi Sanchez Halpert FOTM Tuesday Talk Artist
Tesi's art gave her the courage to recover from a debilitating stroke in February 2004. Working with metal the artist welds unlikely materials into charming, whimsical works that delight the eye. She unabashedly creates "feel good art to spread the joy I feel for life itself."
