GREAT OAKS UPDATE · March 12, 2010
Greetings!

I want to ask for your help. Whether you are a Great Oaks Team member, an occasional attender, or a friend, you can make a difference. You can provide addresses of people who may be interested in Great Oaks, and you can rate us on Google Maps to give us more prominence when people do web searches - of course the rating needs to be good :-)  See the Publicity article in this Newsletter to get started.

Also, a group of Great Oaks people are going to Detroit to attend Pastor Ken Talton's church. More below!

All for Jesus,
Paul
Publicity Update - You Can Help!

Update
Home Churches
We currently have a core team of about 50, counting both adults and children (36+14). We need to more than double that team in the next few months.

By the end of March we will be printing a beautiful accordion fold brochure (see prototype cover to the right) that we will be mailing out in hand addressed envelopes. We will also have a completely updated website with embedded videos telling people what we're doing both in our Home Church Services ("Villages") and in our Sunday Services.

How you can help: Names
What we need from you are the names of people you believe might be interested in Great Oaks. You don't have to be a member of Great Oaks to help us out. If you know people in Rochester Hills or the surrounding communities who would be excited about a new church start with Home Churches in the center of our ministry approach, but also with a vision for a strong Sunday Service, please email us their names and mailing address.

How you can help: Google Maps
We recently posted Great Oaks Church in Google Maps so people can find us doing a search. The only problem is that until lots of people search for us, and people rate us, our name doesn't even come up! So, click here to go to our Google Maps information page and add a (hopeful positive) review of Great Oaks. Then search for us every once in awhile using Google Maps. Have fun!

More Details about mailing
The mailing will include four items in a hand addressed stamped envelope...
  • A letter from Pastor Paul introducing Great Oaks
  • A statement of our Philosophy of Ministry (see below).
  • A full color accordion fold brochure explaining both our Home Church Services and our Sunday Service
  • An invitation to an interest meeting about Great Oaks that will include a casual dinner.
There are three options how we can send these out. You choose for each name which option you'd like us to use...
  • Option 1: A Great Oaks team member will hand address the envelope, and will include all 4 items above. We will use our return address (Bradford home). This option allows you to remain anonymous.
  • Option 2: We give you the stamped envelope with the 4 items and you hand address it and put your return address on it. This will guarantee that the person will open the letter.
  • Option 3: Same as Option 2, except you add a personal note in the envelope. You can keep my intro letter in the envelope or remove it based on what you think best for your friend.
We've received over 50 names; we'd like to have 250-300 names. Just email names and addresses to Pastor Paul. These names will be used with great care and we will strictly follow your instructions.
Great Oaks to Visit
Detroit Church on Sunday

This Sunday a group from Great Oaks Church will be visiting the Pure Religion Teaching Ministry in downtown Detroit. This church, pastored by my good friend Ken Talton, is a new church plant. Great Oaks has been supporting the congregation with a tithe of our income. We count it a priviledge and a blessing to partner with Ken in this work. Ken is a dynamic man who is passionate for Jesus. A native of Detroit, Ken came to the Lord while in prison. He is now married with 6 kids!

The Pure Religion Teaching Ministry is located at 9179 Delmar Street, Detroit MI 48211 (click here for directions). The site is easy access off I-75. The service begins at Noon and goes until 1:30 or 2:00 pm. There is ample parking at the facility the church is leasing.

So far, those who are going down to Detroit include the Oxendine family, Julianne Doherty, Larry Jones, and me (Paul). Join us if you can!

Morning Service being held next Sunday, 10 am

We are meeting the 1st and 3rd Sundays at 10 am at West Middle School, 500 Old Perch Road, Rochester Hills, and will meet again next Sunday, March 21.

The Message
We've been talking about the building blocks of healthy community. Sunday we're continuing our focus on forgiveness. The truth we will be hearing will empower you to forgive and to be set free from hurts and wounds of the past.

Worship
We had a wonderful time of worship last week, and expect the same when we meet again! Come join us.

We are right in the middle of a great series on the Spiritual Gifts and learning how God has "Shaped" us for service. But anyone can come right in the middle, each lesson will be stand alone and we'll review what we've covered so far.

Please click on the "Assessme.org" link to the right to take your personal spiritual gifts assessment. We will be discussing these over the next few weeks. We will be looking at the personality and leadership assessments in the near future.

Downtown Prayer!

Each Friday morning from 7:45 to 8:15 am, a small group of folks from Great Oaks are meeting at the Bean and Leaf coffee shop in downtown Rochester.

Our prayer time is informal, most onlookers wouldn't even know we're praying. But we are, and we're aiming to bless our city and bless Bean and Leaf as well. We sit together in small groups of 3 or 4 and pray in a conversational tone of voice, praising God, interceding for our area, and praying for Great Oaks.

We're having a great time. We can since God's presence and pleasure. Join us if you can!
