GREAT OAKS UPDATE · March 4, 2010
Greetings!

We will have our Sunday Service at West Middle School at 10 am this Sunday. We'll also be having our regular Village gatherings.

Several of us have begun meeting weekly to pray at Bean and Leaf in downtown Rochester. Find out more!

Sunday will be unique because we're having professional videographers coming to film portions of our service for a video we are producing for our soon to be unveiled all new website. The crew will join us again at our Wednesday night Village. You don't have to do or wear anything special, just come as you are to worship and hear God's good Word.

We also have an engagement to announce! See more below.

Rejoice!
Paul
BackyardPrayDowntown Prayer!

Awhile back, Patti Gibbons challenged us to "pause and pray" for our community and for Great Oaks whenever we stopped at a stop light or got caught in a checkout line. Every day Brian Paige had a long wait at the corner of University and Main in Downtown Rochester where the Bean and Leaf Coffee shop is located. He would pause and pray. One day he felt the Lord tugging at his heart to begin praying weekly for our community at the Bean and Leaf. In obedience he began doing so and invited others to join in. We're now meeting every Friday morning from 7:45 to 8:15 am.

Our prayer time is informal, most onlookers wouldn't even know we're praying. But we are, and we're aiming to bless our city and bless Bean and Leaf as well. We sit together in small groups of 3 or 4 and pray in a conversational tone of voice, praising God, interceding for our area, and praying for Great Oaks.

We're having a great time. We can since God's presence and pleasure. Join us if you can!

This weeks topic
We are right in the middle of a great series on the Spiritual Gifts and learning how God has "Shaped" us for service. But anyone can come right in the middle, each lesson will be stand alone and we'll review what we've covered so far.

Please click on the "Assessme.org" link to the right to take your personal spiritual gifts assessment. We will be discussing these over the next two weeks. We will be looking at the personality and leadership assessments in the near future.

We are meeting the 1st and 3rd Sundays at West Middle School, 500 Old Perch Road, Rochester Hills, and will meet again this Sunday.

We've been talking about the building blocks of healthy community. Sunday we're discussing forgiveness. The truth we will be hearing will empower you to forgive and to be set free from hurts and wounds of the past.

Set up - Friday at 6:30 pm
We will be setting up sound, lighting and video equipment.

Prayer - Sunday 9:10 am
The building will open at 8 am Sunday morning for our worship team and workers. We'll pray together from 9:10 to 9:40 am in the "Lifeskills Room" which is just beyond the west side of the cafeteria (away from Old Perch Road, towards the gym). We'll want greeting and hospitality teams in place by 9:45 am.

Worship Service - Sunday 10 am
The service will begin at 10 am and conclude around 11:15 am. We'll take time to visit and then take down the sound and stage equipment.

DrewDrew Hage Engaged!

For those who haven't heard, our team member Drew Hage was recently engaged. On February 20 Drew asked Kathy Smith to marry him, and the incredibly brave woman said yes! With a touch of class Drew chose to propose at the Southernmost point of the continental United States in Key West, Florida (Kathy lives in Florida). Congratulations Drew & Kathy!

Now  for a big prayer request, Kathy needs a job in this area. She's a librarian. Pray for the Lord to open the door for her. Drew will continue going to school at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California this Spring. He's working on two degrees at once. Yep, that's right. He's working on his Masters of Divinity and his Doctorate in Missiology. Pray for God's grace over his studies and that the Lord will bring him back to us soon! You can email Drew to say hi or send your congratulations.
