GREAT OAKS UPDATE · January 16, 2010
Sunday at West Middle School

Greetings!

We had a wonderful prayer gathering at our home on Sunday morning, our home was packed, and we experienced the beauty of God's presence as we worshiped and prayed for over an hour. We know that heaven moves as God's people pray!

We will meet in our Villages Tuesday at 7pm (Doherty home) and Wednesday at 6pm (Bradford home). Then this Sunday morning we will hold our first ever Sunday morning service at 10 am at West Middle School. We'll follow the service with a potluck dinner!

We will be meeting at West Middle School the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month. This isn't our "public launch" - that'll come in September when we begin weekly services, but this is a great time to invite friends.

We have a couple of important needs for Sunday, especially help in the Children's Ministry (see below). But things are on track for our Sunday Service. Read on for important details.

Joy & Peace!

Last week we looked at the principle of tithing in the Old Testament. This week we're going to take a fascinating look at how this concept fits in the New Testament Church.

SundaySunday at West Middle School!
First Morning Service being held this Sunday, 10 am

We are excited to begin meeting Sunday mornings. West Middle School, 500 Old Perch Road, Rochester Hills, is an ideal facility. The school was recently renovated, is very clean and up to date, has a great location, good parking, and a large cafeteria with a stage. We have received a very warm welcome from the Rochester Public School administration as well as from the head custodian at West Middle School. We are looking forward to a positive and long relationship with the school system. Below are some important details.

Set up Friday at 6:30 pm.
Those who are on the set up crew should join us Friday evening. We want to get everything set up and do trouble shooting so we're ready to go on Sunday. Set up should easily be done by 8 pm.

Sunday Morning Service!
The building will open at 8 am Sunday morning for our worship team and workers. We'll pray together from 9:20 to 9:40 am at the front of the cafeteria near the stage. We'll want greeting and hospitality teams in place by 9:45 am. The service will begin at 10 am and conclude around 11:15 am. We'll have time to visit and then we'll need a crew to take down the sound and stage equipment.

PotluckPotluck following!
We'll follow the service with a potluck dinner at Noon at the Home of Julianne Doherty (95 Nesbit Lane, Rochester hills MI 48309). If you have hot or cold food you can drop it by Julianne's home before the Sunday service begins, she lives less than 1/2 mile from the school. Julianne's mom will be there to get crock pots plugged in and to get stuff into the refrigerator or freezer.

NeedsImportant Needs for February 7

Children's Ministry Team

Our greatest need right now is for Children workers to help with toddlers or the children's teaching time. If the Lord stirs on your heart to help, please email our Children's Ministry Director, Katie Oxendine at katie.oxendine@gmail.com . Currently, 2 workers (male and female preferably) are needed but if more volunteer then a rotation schedule could be created. All Children's workers are required to go through a background check.

Prayer team

We desire to build a prayer team to pray in a focused way for Great Oaks as we move forward. Prayer team members will receive regular updates on prayer needs. Email Pastor Paul at Paul@GreatOaksChurch.org if you desire to be a part of our intercessory prayer team.

Set up team and Technical Team

Our Technical Director, Carlos Oxholm, together with our new Portability Director, Russ Baker, will be directing a team that will set up for Sunday. Unless the school has a Saturday activity in the cafeteria, which is rare, we will be setting up Friday evening at 6:30 pm. We need 4-6 people for set up.

We also need a technical team. Ideally we need two people for sound, two for video, and two for lighting, and two for PowerPoint. With two in each position we will always have a backup.

If you can help with set up or with the Technical Team, please email Carlos at carlosoxholm@aol.com.

Hospitality Team

Our Hospitality Director, Julianne Doherty, needs greeters (2), ushers (2) and refreshment hosts (1) to volunteer on a rotating basis.  If you believe hospitality is a place you can serve, please email Julianne at julid76@aol.com.
