Final Chance to join us for Great Oaks "Meal & Music in the Park" Join us Thursday, July 23 in Rochester Municipal Park
Pack a picnic, bring a blanket or lawn chair, and come to simply enjoy being together. For whoever wants to join us, we are attending the "Music in the Park Concert Series" together. We'll each bring our own food and meet together around 6:30pm. The concert will begin at 7:30pm. The Swing Shift Orchestra will be performing.
Directions: Park in the parking lot near the Rochester Police Station. Cross the foot bridge over Paint Creek into the park. Turn left (West), and go just beyond the Pavilion to the hill overlooking the Concert stage (see photo below).
There's a playground for the kids nearby. Join us! Our purpose is simply to enjoy being together and to enjoy some good music.

Second Worship Event Scheduled First Worship Event was a great time together!
We had a wonderful first ever Great Oaks Sunday evening worship service. We had 57 adults and 15 children in attendance (that's over 70 people!). Chris Cheshire led us in a great time of worship, Pastor Paul taught from Deuteronomy 6:4-5 on living a lifestyle of worshipping God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. We also had fun just hanging out with each other and meeting new people.

Our next Sunday evening together will be July 26 at 6:00 pm. Again, we'll begin with acoustic Worship led by Chris Cheshire,a regular Worship leader at Kensington's New Community Service. Pastor Paul Bradford will be teaching on "The Power of the Good News" from Isaiah 61:1-4, which is scriptural foundation of Great Oaks Church (that's where our name comes from).
The main purposes of these first Worship Services are for us to be together worshiping the Lord and to experience a small taste of what is to come. We encourage you to bring friends. If you have never come to Great Oaks, this is a perfect time to join us.
Where? Kensington Community Church, 1825 E. Square Lake Road, Troy MI 48085, Room 213 (the largest room on the 2nd Floor). Click here for MapQuest. Use the west entrance.
When? Sunday, July 26 from 6:00 pm to 7:15 pm. Childcare is provided. Please contact Kim Utley by phone (248-495-9124) or email if you have childcare questions.
Who? This is for everyone, whether you are simply interested in Great Oaks and have never visited or have been coming regularly. This will be a perfect event to which to invite friends.
What? Worship, Teaching, and time together. We'll have gourmet coffee and refreshments before and after. Come, relax, enjoy, and be renewed.

Village Meeting in the Park Beautiful Weather and Incredible Time Together!
Another first this month was a Village meeting in the park. Wow, God blessed this time beyond our expectations. Paul printed songsheets for about 25 people, but we had nearly 50 adults and kids show up. What's more, God showed up! Of course, he's always present, but he was with us in a special way as we worshiped, prayed, discussed God's Word, and shared the Lord's Table together. The day was absolute gorgeous with temperatures in the mid 70's, a light breeze blowing, and crystal blue skies.

We had such an awesome time at our last "Village in the Park" that we've schedule another one at the end of August. Put it down on your calendar, August 30, 10:30 am, in the Rochester Municipal Park Kawanis Club Pavilion.

The Our Mission (Isaiah 61:1-3)
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor... that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display his splendor.

Meet the Corbin & Wendy Wagner Family
We want you to meet the people God is sending to Great Oaks. If Great Oaks is your church family, please email us a bit of information about you and your family and a digital photo. Thanks!
Wendy and Corbin Wagner are proud parents of five children, most of which are grown. We have one teenager left, Cyndi, who keeps us on our toes. Wendy works at Wayne State University and Corbin with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. We live in Bloomfield Hills.
We are excited about the opportunities at Great Oaks Church. We have taken turns through the years serving God in the music and drama ministries and in leadership roles. We are hopeful for new friends and new ways to serve God. It is truly exciting to help start a church and help develop its character and heart -- a heart for loving people through Jesus Christ our Savior.
Corbin, Cyndi, and Wendy Wagner |
