Great Oaks "Meal & Music in the Park" Begins Thursday! Sunday Village won't meet due to Father's Day, but all can join us this Thursday in Rochester Municipal Park
Several times this summer we are planning an informal "whoever can come" picnic Thursday evenings in Rochester Municipal Park. The plan is simple, pack a picnic and come to simply enjoy being together and attend the "Music in the Park Concert Series" (see the City of Rochester Calendar for more information). We'll each bring our own food and meet together at 6pm in the Picnic Pavilion (park in the lot by the Rochester Police station, go over the bridge and turn left - can't miss it). We'll eat together and then go down the hill for the concert at 7:30pm. There's a playground for the kids right next to the shelter.
We will be repeating this event regularly throughout the summer (see the Great Oaks Summer Calendar below). So, join us if you'd like to--our purpose is simply to enjoy being together and to enjoy some good music.

First Worship Event Scheduled!! If you've never come to a Great Oaks Event, or want to invite a friend for the first time, this is the event for you.
We are excited to announce our first Worship Service. For the next several months we are planning to hold a Worship Service on the 4th Sunday of each month at 6:00 pm beginning June 28 (that's less than two weeks away). We'll begin with Worship, led by Chris Cheshire. Chris is a regular Worship leader at Kensington's New Community; we're very blessed to have her leading for us. Pastor Paul Bradford will be teaching on "The Heart of Worship."
The main purposes of these first Worship Services are for us to be together worshiping the Lord and to experience a small taste of what is to come. Worship at this first service will be with an acoustic guitar (a full band will be coming later). Guests are encouraged, though our future public services will be more developed. Here are the details for the 28th:
Where? Kensington Community Church, 1825 E. Square Lake Road, Troy MI 48085, Room 213 (the largest room on the 2nd Floor). Click here for MapQuest. Use the west entrance.
When? Sunday, June 28 from 6:00 pm to 7:15 pm. Childcare is provided. Please contact Kim Utley by phone (248-495-9124) or email if you have childcare questions.
Who? This is for everyone, whether you are simply interested in Great Oaks and have never visited or have been coming regularly. This will be a perfect event to which to invite friends.
What? Worship led by Chris Cheshire, and a teaching by Pastor Paul. We'll have gourmet coffee and refreshments before and after. Come, relax, enjoy, and be renewed.

Great Oaks Summer Calendar Some great things are in the works for July and August!
Thursday we had our first Great Oaks Planning meeting and came up with some great plans for the summer. We had several goals. We didn't want to do too much, summer is a busy time in Michigan for everyone. But we also wanted good connecting times as a congregation. We wanted to have regular Villages, but also some Worship Services.
So, here's our Summer Calendar. Beyond June the Calendar is somewhat tentative, we'll confirm dates in the next couple of weeks and getting you more information as events approach, but we wanted to get the plan out to you. Church wide events are in red.

The Our Mission (Isaiah 61:1-3)
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor... that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display his splendor.

Meet the Ed & Kim Utley Family
We want you to meet the people God is sending to Great Oaks. If Great Oaks is your church family, please email us a bit of information about you and your family (if applicable) and a digital photo. Thanks!
Ed and Kim Utley along with their 4 children, Chase (10), Cassidy (8), Gabriel (4), and Gracie (2) live in a 110 year old home in the heart of downtown Rochester. They enjoy living in a small community like Rochester because of the lifestyle it provides for raising a family. Ed is co-owner of a Design Engineering firm in Troy as well as the owner of a new landscaping/lawn service company. Kim is the home manager and also homeschools the children. The Utley's love to spend time outdoors working and playing together.
The Utley's joined Great Oaks Church because they love the dream and vision of sharing God's love and message for people in this community. They have a passion to see Jesus changing lives through a missional focused Village group and connecting in authentic relationships with others.
