GREAT OAKS PICNIC ROCKED
About 40 people joined us for a great time

Our "Progressive Picnic" at Brinston Park in Troy was a fantastic time. We ate great food and got to know each other. Many people commented on the sense of family they experienced and the desire to get together for fun again. Which we will do!

One of our core values is being Grounded in Christ and Community. Not only did we have fun at our picnic, we saw our relationships deepen and strengthen.

I brought my camera but forgot to take pictures. Great Oaks needs a couple of designated photographers so we can be sure we get photos of these early days (and also photos for our Great Oaks Updates!). In about 5 years we will be looking back in amazement at what God has done.
So, let me know if you'd like to be one of our photo journalists!
Great Oaks Reaching Out in Care
We'll be partnering with Grace Centers of Hope...

One of our deep values is Giving. So many churches enjoy spending time with each other but never reach out in love beyond their own circle. But caring for others, and especially caring for those in need, is central to living the life of Christ. Jesus commanded us to care for the least and the broken. Showing practical care to those in need not only can bring real hope and change to them, it also deepens our love and brings lasting joy in our lives. As we give we receive.

So, lets do it! Next Saturday, June 6, we will be gathering at Grace Centers of Hope, located at 35 E. Huron in Pontiac. The plan is to meet at 9 a.m. Pastor Kent Clark, the Chief Executive Officer of Grace Centers of Hope (formerly the Pontiac Rescue Mission), will be greeting us. We'll get a private tour of the property and learn about the amazing work that GCoH has been doing for decades in the community. Then shortly after 10 we'll help prepare lunch for the residents of Grace Centers and will then serve them. We'll clean up and should be all done by 2 pm. More details will be coming in a few days.

I'm excited to announce that Dave Trombka has accepted the important role as our church's Community Service Director. Dave has lots of experience in this area - for years he led Kensington's "Reach" ministry. Dave will be spearheading an ongoing partnership with Grace Centers and other community organizations so we can make an impact for the Lord in our area. Each Village will need a Community Service Coordinator to work with Dave. Let me know if you think that might be a job the Lord is calling you to do.

The Our Mission
(Isaiah 61:1-3)

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor... that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display his splendor.
