WELCOMETonya 2011

As many of you can no doubt relate to, the launch of our new web site,

www.tbinnovates.com, took longer than we had planned!  However, we're pleased to announce that it has gone live and invite you to take a look at it.

Following are some of the features we hope you will find helpful:

  • Overall ease of navigation and a clearer message to the innovation community
  • Easily viewable content on our events and those of our partners
  • Separate event pages describing the intent of each and incorporating the TECH Talk videos
  • Easy online application feature
  • Blogging and social media interaction
  • Better opportunities to highlight our clients and their success and recognition

On another note, this month's feature article and sidebar are from Gary Haberland, CEO of Winter Park-based GENICON.

Gary will be our TECH Talk speaker in October.  Based on your requests, we've adjusted our schedule of newsletter articles and TECH Talk speakers to allow for a full month in between.

We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event and welcome your comments on the new web site.

Offshoring: One Company's Experience        By Gary Haberland

Throughout the several years, along with growing, waning and sometimes renewed interest in offshoring, there has been a certain amount of confusion in the use of the terms "offshoring" and "outsourcing."

The difference is quite simple.  Unless the business is totally self-sufficient and completely vertically integrated, every business outsources.  It can be something as traditional as accounting services or something more technologically advanced, but it means contracting with a third party for certain tasks or functions.

Offshoring: Five Questions to Consider   By Gary Haberland

Gary HaberlandBased on GENICON's experience in offshoring, we suggest that companies consider the following questions as they evaluate whether offshoring is right for them:
  1. Are the company's revenues high enough to support the growing labor, shipping and materials costs?
  2. Does the company have the staffing capabilities to provide round the clock and onsite management?
  3. Do product fit, form and function standards need to meet extreme precision and replication requirements?
  4. Are products of a sophistication level that they require the best in production and supervision?
  5. How important are quality certifications?  (We found that some vendors actually bought, rather than earned, their certifications.)
