2010-11 4th QUARTER REPORT

2010-11 4th Quarter Summary Comments:
This is the final report for the 2010-11 fiscal year completed June 30. Pledged and non-pledged giving for the 4th quarter was 3.9% under plan leaving us 3.7% under plan for the fiscal year that began July 1, 2010. As we began the 4th quarter, the Finance Team officially ended the Raise the Roof Campaign which was successful in collecting nearly 100% of the cost of the new Sanctuary roof.
As we moved into the 4th and final quarter of the 2010-11 fiscal year, the Trustees learned we needed to replace the roof over the office/Fellowship Hall portion of the Education Building. The Trustees have contracted for the replacement at a total cost of $40,350. We received a generous donation of $5000 to start a fund raiser for this program and have received $1400 to date toward the project. While we have some funds available for this project, we did have to secure a $20,000 loan to complete the project.
This year we have not had a typical Stewardship Campaign as in years past. Pledge cards were mailed in mid-July and we celebrated Support Sunday on July 24. For a ministry to be healthy and effective, its members and friends must first support the ministry expenses including our fair share of United Methodist Ministry and Missons. (We have fulfilled 20.3% of our 2011 Apportionment obligation to date.) Our giving support goes beyond our church, such as Nast-Trinity, Earthquake and UMCOR relief, and the Felicity soup kitchen feeding those in need. The people of Mt. Moriah have been faithful in supporting Mt. Moriah's Ministries and Missions. We have also been challenged to giving beyond these areas to support capital improvement such as the Sanctuary roof, Fellowship Hall roof, Sanctuary furnace, and other missions such as Christmas Anonymous.
.
Each of us must recognize the tremendous things Mt. Moriah's people have accomplished through their generous giving of their time, talents and giving. However, we can not rest on our past accomplishments, but must continue to stretch our resources to accomplish more. We can do this by first, recognizing our pledged giving is a commitment that must be honored, and secondly, by continuing to help trim costs and look for new opportunities to increase our resources, such as taking advantage of the Kroger Gift Card Program (FREE MONEY). Thank you to all for keeping costs down and to each of us for contributing to the support of Jesus' Christ ministry at Mt. Moriah. Your faithfulness provides outreaching, discipleship development, worship, Christian education, adult, children and youth ministry. Please continue to make every effort to fulfill your financial pledge. Mt Moriah's ability to continue the outstanding mission work you help accomplish in our church, community and globally with the gifts of your time, talents and financial support depends on it. |
What A Great Week!
In spite of the HEAT and threatening downpours, once again our "SonSurf Beach Bash Vacation Bible School" at Mt. Moriah was TOTALLY a success! And look at all the school supplies our "surfers" brought to help out those who have less than themselves! Thanks to all who stepped up to serve this year, new servant leaders and those who keep on serving in this awesome outreach ministry - and once again to the great leadership of our Vacation Bible School Coordinator - Kris Byrd. Next year VBS will be a little earlier in the summer, so watch for information about our JUNE 2012 Vacation Bible School. |

Thank You
What a gift and blessing my mom, Evelyn Donovan, was to her family and all who knew her for her 98 years and 8 months on this earth. Our family would like to thank all who sent cards and had such nice things to say about her. Many, many thanks to Pastor Lowe and Sandy for all they did not only in her last days and at her "Celebration of Life" but also for their visits over the past several years. -Kathy Herrmann

News from the Ark
The Ark is rollin' on the river! The children visited the Chilo Lock and Museum on the Ohio River and got a taste of riverboat life. Two upcoming field trips include visiting the Sharon Woods Heritage Village and a tour of Clermont County with historian Rick Crawford. It's fun being at the Ark this summer!
Enrollment for the fall is in progress. Children ages 3-11 are eligible, and busing is available for school-age children who attend Withamsville or Merwin Elementary. Space is limited, so sign up soon!
I'm so proud of the kindness and generosity of our children. Each year the school-age children visit the Ronald McDonald House for a tour and talk about the wonderful things that Children's Hospital of Cincinnati does for the children who are hospitalized and their families. We support the Ronald McDonald House by saving aluminum can tabs over the year and presenting them to a representative of the house. Last year we filled 29 gallon jugs full of pop tabs, and this year our goal is to top last year's donation. You can still help us achieve that goal. Bring in your pop tabs to the Ark office in the next 2 weeks, and we'll be sure to get them to Pam Robinson, field trip coordinator, to take to Ronald himself.
The Fabulous Frogs and the Rockin' Robins are collecting items for the Animal Rescue Fu nd (ARF) of Clermont County. These kindergarteners, first-, and second-graders are reading the book Shiloh about a dog who was rescued from an abusive home. Our children wanted to do something for the abandoned animals in Clermont County. Since we couldn't adopt all the animals, we decided to collect items for ARF. Not only does ARF need the usual items of pet food and cat litter, but also things like bath towels, round toilet seat covers, dryer sheets, and Clorox. A list of items is posted outside rooms 2-3. Let's show our children that we care about all of God's creatures.
The Oldest Owls group of third, fourth, and fifth graders wanted to bring awareness to the Jaymie Jamison Foundation of Hope. This is a support group committed to fighting for a cure, started by Hope - the 14 year old daughter of Jaymie Jamison, a young mother who lost her battle with cervical cancer. The Owls put their knitting skills to use by knitting teal-colored ribbons, with proceeds from the sale of the ribbons going to the foundation. Pictures of the Owls knitting, as well as pictures from various on-site and off-site events, are displayed in the Ark hallway. Check out the pictures and let the children know that you appreciate their acts of kindness.
Perhaps you could help with one more thing. The Ark is in need of girl's clothing, particularly shorts and short-sleeved shirts, and underwear for both girls and boys. We like to have changes of clothes on hand, just in case. So as you're cleaning out closets, send in those items that your child no longer wears. We would greatly appreciate it.
Enjoy the rest of your summer! |

FREE MONEY FOR MINISTRY!
Little effort, big return. Four percent (4%) of your purchase using the KrogerCard comes to Mt. Moriah to support the ministry of Jesus Christ at Mt. Moriah. Step ONE: Purchase your Kroger Card from Mt. Moriah COST $1. Step TWO: When you go to Kroger just prior to the cashier ringing up your groceries hand them this special Mt. Moriah KrogerCardtelling them you want to put some money on the card say $50, $100 as an example. They will take your card and you give them the money to cover that amount. After that transaction is complete, the Cashier will ring up your purchases. Then use your special Mt. Moriah Kroger Card to pay for your order. Step THREE: Smile - as the cashier hands you your receipt and you can see how much you were able to help Mt. Moriah. Adding $50 to your card gets Mt. Moriah $2, a $100 purchase gets $4 and so on. PLUS, you still get all your groceries and gas "points" Currently Mt. Moriah receives on average $200.00/month free money from our members making this a life style of blessing for Jesus' ministry. REMEMBER TO RECHARGE YOUR CARD! - Cards inactive for a certain number of days (90?) become invalid and you will need to purchase a new card - Dare to Dream What a blessing it would be to double or triple the current income of this free money. |
Opportunity to Help - from Eric Schweinhart
July 19, 2011
Dear Mt. Moriah Family,
This summer I will be returning to the saddle to support The Fuller Center for Housing. God has once again put it on my heart to ride to support the movement to eliminate poverty housing. From my experience with this same ride in 2009 I know that God is going to work in amazing ways throughout the entirety of the adventure. Anyways, I wanted to invite you to be a part of my plans for this summer.
At the heart of our nation's economic troubles is the housing crisis, and it is a sad truth that much of the world lives in nothing but shacks. This summer I have committed myself to making a difference through an event called the Fuller Center Bicycle Adventure. It will support The Fuller Center for Housing (www.fullercenter.org), a relatively new and growing Christian non-profit organization that builds homes at no-profit and no-interest across the U.S. and around the world. If you have never heard of the Fuller Center, it was founded by the same gentleman that founded Habitat for Humanity, Millard Fuller.
From August 6th to August 14th I will be riding my bicycle over 400 miles from Columbus, Ohio to Washington, D.C. I will be joining a movement of riders that has already started in Seattle, Washington and is on its way to D.C. During the time I am riding with the group we will also be stopping and serving as the hands and feet of God while we work on repairing a home.
The goal of the trip is to raise $500,000 and we are well on our way. My personal goal is to raise $1000 for the week I will be riding. 100% of the money raised on the trip will go towards the improvement of living conditions for underprivileged individuals.
All of the riders need your support as we travel across the United States. More importantly however is the need of the people that we are serving along our journey. As you are financially able, perhaps you can sponsor me for a certain distance along my trip whether it be a state, a day, or just a few miles. As I ride along this journey I will carry with me a list of sponsors as a personal reminder to pray for you and thank God for all you have done for me and The Fuller Center for Housing.
I invite you to see more about our trip on our website, http://fullercenter.org/bikeadventure, where you can also find the link to our online blog that we will be updating from the road and a link to donating online. If you would like to know more about the trip or the personal journey that God is guiding me on, I would love to talk!!! Thank you in advance for your prayers for the team this summer, and for your support of the Fuller Center and their beneficiaries. We will stay in touch.
With sincere appreciation,
Eric Schweinhart
P.S. You can send a check made out to "The Fuller Center for Housing" with Attn: Bike Adventure, Eric Schweinhart in the memo line. Donations can be sent to The Fuller Center for Housing, Attn: Bike Adventure,
701 S. Martin Luther King Blvd., Americus, GA 31719 or donate online at: https://fullercenter.org/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=4 Thanks!

I am doing this ride because I feel like I have been called by God to support those who are in need and this is one of the best ways I know to accomplish that mission. Becoming part of something that is greater than myself is what I am really excited about and I encourage you to do the same.

Study Opportunity
The Wednesday Ladies Bible Study (Wednesdays 10am - 12 noon) has started a new study book. Our studies are published by the Women of Faith organization and require about 1 ½ hours of home study each week.
Being Yourself is our new topic.
We are many ages who bring different experiences to the table. Pray then listen to that still small voice. Perhaps the Lord wants you to join us! Call me if you have questions - Peggy Berkmyer 553-2122.
