THE CONNECTION

Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church

 Celebrate,Praise,Rejoice

"Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!"

Luke 24:5b-6a

Celebrate Jesus, death defeated, the Lord of Lord's alive again! "Easter" is the day inempty tomb history marked by the resurrection of Jesus Son of God. An Empty tomb, just a cave, not a grave, He is risen! Celebrate in the name of Jesus. Come to God, worship Him in Spirit and truth. Mt. Moriah's sanctuary is open for all to gather to worship the resurrected one.

Raise praise, clap your hands, singing songs of honor for Jesus is raised.  Scripture reveals God's plan, prophecy and fulfillment.  Fill the sanctuary, heart, head, and soul with the good news God is with us. Yes, God sent His only Son to save the world, you, me, them, us.  He came as example, miracle worker, teacher, servant, Savior. We Win!

Rejoice Jesus lives! Rejoice God forgives!

Easter, God the Father invites you to celebrate His love for you. We will rejoice in our blessing of Jesus alive and victorious. We look to the living Jesus. Jesus was not in the tomb that first Easter Sunday Jesus promises to be present where two or three are gathered in His name.

Confirmation Retreat Weekend Builds Faith
Adam McCoy

confirmation group On the weekend of March 11-13, I had the opportunity to attend the CampOtterbein confirmation retreat. This would not have been possible without the support and encouragement of Mt.Moriah's congregation and our confirmation leaders; Kris Byrd, Diane Morris, and Pastor Lowe. As part of the weekend, we spent time in small group discussion where we learned more about the history and foundation of the Methodist church, its founder John Wesley, the many different types of grace, and our spiritual gifts. We also had the chance to participate in fun, team-building activities such as rope challenges, wire walks, and trust falls. For me personally, the confirmation retreat experience deepened my understanding of the United Methodist Churches and their views on significant world issues. It also inspired me to become a more active member of Mt. Moriah U.M.C.

Alicia Bailey

The confirmation retreat was a great experience because it was fun and you connected with other Christian teens. My favorite part was the low ropes. They focused mainly on teamwork. In playing these games, we learned the different elements of teamwork like communication (both talking and listening), learning to trust each other, being patient, planning strategies, thinking outside the box and especially encouragement. We also learned who the natural leaders in our group were. Overall it was a wonderful, touching experience.

Raise the Roof Campaign Wrap Up

blank roofLast March, the Mt Moriah Board of Trustees and the Finance Team initiated the Raise the Roof Campaign.  Our goal was to raise $60,000 for two major projects.

1.      Reroof the Sanctuary

2.      Recover the expense incurred to pave the lower and upper parking lots, east drive and parsonage driveway and raise the additional funds to pave the White House drive way and the loop around the Education Building.

One year later, the generous gifting of many of our members and constituents totaling $27,563, has enabled the Trustees to have Oakley Roofing, owned by our own Don Wright, complete the reroofing of our Sanctuary for a total cost of $28,000.  The balance of the cost has been covered by the RSG Maintenance Fund.  Any further paving work will be deferred until a later date when funds become available.

As of April 1, this campaign is officially closed.

To those of you who were able and willing to help with this project - THANK YOU!

All of us will enjoy another 30 years of dryness because of your generosity!

Ark of Learning Notes

ark logo

Welcome Spring!  You know that just as I say "spring," we will be blessed with a blanket of snow.  But we'll try to keep the Ark of Learning sailing smoothly through all the March madness.

We enjoyed celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday and watching the leprechauns turn everything green on St. Patrick's Day.  Now we're looking forward to the Week of the Young Child, April 10-16, and to Easter.  The Ark will be closed on Good Friday, and the staff here wishes all of you a blessed Easter.

Did you see the beautiful quilts we made?  We had a canned goods drive for Inter-Parish Ministries, "Cans for Quilts."  The children designed their own quilt squares, and for every canned good brought in, the children put their names in a hat.  The quilts went home with Sean, Ella, Zoey, and Ian.  The Ark children donated 100 cans!  During the months of March and April, the Inter-Parish Ministries received a grant, "The Feinstein Challenge to Fight Hunger," in which all donations are doubled.  "That's like giving 200 cans!" exclaimed Natilee.  A special thanks goes to Chuck Lynch for delivering the canned goods to Inter-Parish.

The Ark wrote 2 grants of its own:  one to Duke Energy asking for $1000 for mulch as protective ground surface on our playgrounds; the other to the Cincinnati Foundation Summertime Kids asking for $1000 to pay for buses for summer field trips to historical sites in Ohio.  Registration for summer camp in ongoing.  Children ages 3 - 11 can join us for a summer of fun!

Prayer Pagers

pagerAt Mt. Moriah UMC, a unique part of our prayer ministry involves "Prayer Pagers".

An individual can request a pager, or we can suggest/offer one to them.

Here is a story about how they work:

"Suzie" is going through hard times right now and is struggling.  Some of it could be traveling, studying, physical, emotional, spiritual, mental ... sometimes more one thing than another.

"Jozee" is a part of the prayer ministry here at Mt.Moriah and mentions prayer pagers to "Suzie", who accepts a prayer pager.

The pager # and holder's name are listed in the prayer ministry emails and autodialer prayer calls.

Whenever "Jozee" or others pray for "Suzie", they call the pager number, listen for the tone, and key in their zip code (or special ID code) followed by the # symbol.

"Suzie" gets a page and knows someone in that area is praying for her at that moment.

I send you this message so that if you ever feel like you need a pager, let me know and if we have one available, you are welcome to it.

Say a prayer, send a page.  It couldn't be more simple and has proven to be a powerful spirit lifter in several cases.

thank you
