 | Rummage Sale Date Change | |
Please mark your calendars for a date change for the spring rummage sale.
Because of a conflict at the Methodist Mountain Mission about getting a truck to come to Cincinnati and pick up our leftover rummage, we had to move the sale to May 5,6,and 7.
The Methodist Mountain Mission has 5 trucks and they need to use all of them to go to a town in Illinois for a pick up.
Sorry for the change, but we need to have a pick up after the rummage sale and the Methodist Mountain Mission is the best source that we have.
Thank you for understanding.
Doris Huntington, Chr.

Well, be sad no longer. We are going to be setting up a few dates and times for you to be photographed by one of our own church community and additional pages be printed to expand our directory. So whether or not you were included in the last "official" photo directory, if you want a new pic included in the new pages, keep a watch out for more details - and help us all put names and faces together! Faith Based Film
One Day Showing

Get Ready for a GRACE Awakening
February 25, 2011
This is the release date for
"The Grace Card"
movie. Bring a friend, one who maybe needs to give a little grace, or needs to see there is grace to be had. I had an opportunity to attend a prescreening of this film and feel it has the potential to impact greatly all communities willing to embrace the writing on the grace card.
To all people, sometimes especially the ones to whom you don't get along with, try living a little more of this saying
"I promise to pray for you every day, ask your forgiveness, grant you the same, and be your friend always." This promise, lived out in the movie, changes lives.
There will be several opportunities to go to this together. At this time the locations nearest us showing this film are Newport and Springdale. We will be posting more information as it becomes available.
Here are some excerpts from the film's website www.thegracecardmovie.com
Witness the Power of Forgiveness
Everything can change in an instant ... and take a lifetime to unravel. When Mac McDonald loses his son in an accident, years of bitterness and pain erodes his love for his family and leaves him angry with God ... and everyone else.
Can Mac and Sam Wright, his new patrol partner, somehow join forces to help one another when it's impossible to look past their differences-especially the most obvious one?
Every day, we have the opportunity to rebuild relationships and heal wounds by extending and receiving God's grace. Offer
THE GRACE CARD
... and never underestimate the power of God's love.
"THE GRACE CARD
is a powerful portrayal of how one life transformed by God's grace can substantially impact an entire community. "

Who am I ?
"Who am I" the title of the upcoming series of messages leading to the holy season of Lent. In this series we will listen Jesus, The I AM sayings of Jesus Christ. Today's society loves opinion polls from daily conversations with local news stations to the World Wide Web people give and receive their opinions. Going beyond mere opinions we will be exploring Jesus the Christ. There is no better place to go to learn about Jesus than to Jesus himself. What does Jesus have the say about himself in answer to who are you? Come let us worship God learning from Jesus as the community faith gathered at Mt.Moriah. Got Questions You REALLY Want to Ask?
Why is the sky blue? Why do dogs have four legs? Why can't I see God? Somewhere along the way, we stop asking so many questions. We settle for the answers given to us long ago rather than rocking the boat. Maybe we're fearful about what we'll learn. Maybe we just don't want to risk change.
Questioning takes courage. It's the way that we learn and the way we grow. When we keep the questions coming, we keep the conversation going with God ... and one another.
This Lent, RethinkChurch invites you to experience one of life's greatest mysteries - God's radical breaking through with a Love that could not be destroyed. Rediscover your curiosity and meet God in the questions...not just the answers.
This lectionary-based study provides ideas for worship and for living the faith beyond the sanctuary walls. Sample questions are included for personal and congregational reflection, and for social media engagement. By creating an environment where questioning is acceptable, local churches can strengthen ties to those unfamiliar with spiritual disciplines, and deepen existing faith. United Methodist Communications
This is a different study than the Max Lucado "Fear Less" study we completed last year.
Mt.Moriah's "Fearless" begins with Ash Wednesday March 9th and concludes with Palm/Passion Sunday April 17th.
As with our monthly service of worship "The Conversation" we will be seeking your questions. Yes, even those that are not part of this Lenten Study. |

2010-2011 2nd Quarter Summary Comments:
Giving for the 2nd quarter was basically at plan, an improvement over the 1st quarter. We are now only 2.3% below plan for the year compared to 4.1% below plan for the 1st quarter. While this may not sound positive, the congregation of Mt.Moriah has again proved to be very generous with their giving. During this quarter, we have completely paid the following:
· Sanctuary roof
· Final payment for the EducationBuilding paving
· Crack filling, sealing and lining of the Sanctuary parking lot
· Primary Sanctuary furnace
· Balance of our Conference Apportionments - 100% Paid in Full
This is the second report for fiscal year 2010-11 that began July 1, 2010. Please note that generally, all giving is initially designated for the General Fund. (Gifts received that are designated for a specific account such as RSG or Apportionments still go to those areas.)
Specifically, the Raise the Roof campaign has provided $27,178 through 1/2/11 toward the total project cost of $28,000. The balance of our Conference Apportionment commitment was fulfilled by borrowing $5000 from our Dare to Dream fund. This is particularly impressive when one considers we were projecting an $11,000 shortage in early October. Once again, the congregation answered the call and reduced the projected shortfall by more than 50%. Added to the generosity you demonstrated in continuing to support Christmas Anonymous, the Christmas Letter and the Pastor/Staff gift request, we are truly a giving congregation!
Looking forward to the second half of our fiscal year, your Finance Team and Mt. Moriah Leadership will continue to be good stewards of your generosity and continue to identify and implement ways to use your financial gifts efficiently and effectively in implementing our mission of

Memorial Tree
Stop in the narthex some Sunday before or after church and take a look at our beautiful Memorial Tree. It is on the wall to the right of the kitchen.
The Memorial Tree was purchased in 1987 when the new sanctuary was furnished with pews, Bibles, etc. It was decided that name plaques would not be placed on the various furnishings in the new building. After much research to find a uniform method to recognize loved ones and friends, the Memorial Tree was purchased.
The outline of the original tree is apparent. When the original leaves were all filled, three new sections were added, using undesignated funds from the Memorials Account.
Leaves can be purchased for $100 each and will be engraved with the wording of your choice. Leaves have been purchased to honor, thank, celebrate, and memorialize loved ones and friends. The Memorials Team keeps an accurate, detailed, updated account of each leaf purchased and its location on the tree.
If you have any questions about the Memorial Tree or would like to purchase a leaf, please contact one of the Memorials Team members: Betsy Barrett, Margaret Marx, Jim Schott, June Cowgell, Millie Rammel, or Esther Klotter. Spending a few moments reading the Memorial Tree leaves is time well-spent. You'll probably recognize a few names and enjoy some fond memories! |

| News from the Ark of Learning
Winter has arrived here at the Ark in full force. We love the snow and some our children have been outside to play while it was snowing. The children get excited at the snow as well as some of our staff!!!! Our families depend on us for their child care needs, so we try to stay open even when other schools close.
This month is Dental Health month so Dr. Poulos will be making a visit to the Ark. He will show our children how to properly brush their teeth. Also we will be having our Valentine Day parties.
It's hard to believe that it is already time for priority registration. Our children who are currently enrolled at the Ark are now registering for our summer and fall sessions. Open enrollment begins March 1. We are very proud of the programs that we offer here at the Ark and encourage recommendations from our church family. The Ark offers free Annual Student Fees for members of Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church. .

8th Annual Antiques and Collectibles Appraisal Fair
Saturday, February 19, 2011
10AM - 2 PM
On Saturday February 19, 2011, the Mt. Moriah United Methodist Women will sponsor the 8th annual Antiques and Collectibles Appraisal Fair. We are privileged to have three qualified appraisers again this year. They are Bob Branson, Bill Rainey and Mike Brandley. They will be happy to look at your item and give you an honest appraisal.
The cost per item is $5.00 - 6 items for $25.00
The following information will explain how the Appraisal fair works:
New and seasoned collectors alike often have items for which the value and history are mysteries. Finding out more about these objects requires finding an expert. One way to do so is to take advantage of a local "Appraisal Day", where you can bring your items to a roomful of experts and have them take a look at your item or items and give you some information about them.
No appointment needed.
Choose your oldest or most unusual items: Examples of objects to bring to an appraisal day include things that have been in the family for generations or unusual items.
Bring pictures of large furniture: If the item is too large to transport easily, you can still get an informal appraisal by bringing pictures of your item. Take pictures from every angle - front, back, sides and interior details, such as a drawer.
Do some research first: To get the most out of the time you spend with your appraiser, do your own research first and then you can ask more detailed questions.
Have reasonable expectations: With the popularity of such shows as the "Antiques Roadshow", etc., some people get their hopes up. It is important not to have too high of expectations.
Take notes: You will receive a spoken appraisal only, so bring a notebook for jotting down information. Besides a dollar value, the appraiser can give you an overview on the history of the item. The informal spoken appraisal is meant mainly for your enlightenment. If you need a formal written appraisal (for insurance or probate) you will need to schedule an appointment with an appraiser. At that appointment you can expect to pay anywhere from $100.00 to have a few items appraised up to $1,500.00 to have an entire collection appraised.
Food will be available
Any questions, please, contact Doris Huntington at 947-0987. |

DO YOU SHOP AT KROGER?

If you answered yes, then you can earn money for the Mt. Moriah Education Team Budget!!!
It's easy, and FREE!
All you need to do is come to the church office, bring $1, get a Kroger Gift Card from Charlotte (it already has $1 loaded on it,) take it to Kroger and load money on it!! Every dollar you load is yours to spend at Kroger. Kroger will give Mt. Moriah 4% of every dollar that is loaded!!
For details, and quotes from people you know, keep reading!
The church office is open Monday thru Friday, from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Come anytime during those hours.
The gift card you receive from Charlotte has a special sticker on it, identifying it as a Mt. Moriah card. Using any other Kroger gift card will not benefit Mt. Moriah.
This is an ongoing fundraiser for the Education Team.
It began in Feb of 2009 by 2009 Education Chair Amy Shilling.
To date, we have raised $4,645.79 for the Education Team!!!!
This fundraiser is a win-win for both you and the Education Team!! It allows you to help, without purchasing things you don't want or need.
Kroger allows up to $500.00 to be loaded at a time on your card. You can reload as often as you wish. There is no limit as to how much you can have on your card.
Each time you use your card, your receipt will print out the remaining balance.
You can use your Kroger gift card at any Kroger, any Kroger pharmacy and their gas pumps - anywhere in the country!!!
You can load your card at any Kroger - at the Service Desk, or in the checkout line!
Mt. Moriah does not track your purchases. It only receives the amount that was loaded and/or spent.
Mt. Moriah does not even record which numbered card you receive.
Mt. Moriah receives a monthly statement from Kroger, and a check for any money we have earned.
Family members and friends can also participate, and earn money for the Education Team.
Charlotte Bailey had this to say about the fundraiser: "There is really no other fundraiser where the church is getting FREE MONEY."
Margaret Marx had this to say: "Personally, I've done it from Day 1. And the Ark of Learning has one - we buy our milk using the card. I feel good helping the Education Team."

Reflections Youth:
Warming Up the Winter Months It may be cold outside, but the students from Reflections - Mt. Moriah's Youth Group for third-through fifth-graders - stayed plenty warm at their January meeting. Besides challenging one another in two spirited rounds of laser tag, the group also discussed the importance of fellowship and teamwork. "Playing laser tag was a blast, especially chasing Miss Kris!" said third-grader Aaron McCoy. "During our break, we had popcorn and talked about how God wants us to work together to tell others about Him, just like we did on our teams for tag."
Next up, the Reflections youth will turn their attention to honoring our area's service men and women for their February meeting: "Call of Duty: Supporting Our Nation's Military." Mark your calendars for Friday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m., and watch for more meeting details in our upcoming bulletins and invitation fliers. For more information about Reflections, contact Kris Byrd at 752-1333 or at youth_director@fuse.net.
