Basic Religion Test Stumps Many Americans
(New York Times headline)
A recent "Pew Research" finding has made the lead story spot in the news. The the study found average American can answer only half of 32 questions on religion correctly.
"Even after all these factors, including education, are taken into account, atheists and agnostics, Jews and Mormons still outperform all other religious groups. In our survey." Pew Research
Could it be that the survey reveals a need for more Christians to study Christianity, scripture, and world religions so as to know as much as those who oppose our faith? Yes!

2 Timothy 2:15 (New Living Translation) An Approved Worker 15 Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth. 2 Timothy 4:1-3 (New Living Translation) 1 I solemnly urge you in the presence of God and Christ Jesus, who will someday judge the living and the dead when he appears to set up his Kingdom: 2 Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching. 3 For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear.

Celebrating a Thirty-Fifth Anniversary On a day in September, 1975 Lois Javins accepted a position as the four-year-old teacher at the Mt. Moriah United Methodist Day Care Center. On that September day she did not know she had found her place, her profession, her position for thirty-five years! She was hired by the Rev. Millard Knowles and worked closely with his wife, Carolyn Knowles. In the early '80's she was asked to become Director of the child care center when the Knowles' ministry here ended. Lois remained Director until 1992 when she asked to be replaced in order to spend more time with her grandchildren. She agreed to be the Assistant Director and has served in that capacity with three directors, Karen Smith, Doris Malany and now with Linda Harp. For thirty-five years Lois Javins has helped administer this outreach of the church. As the child care administrator she has influenced children, assisted families, hired employees, met state requirements, served with board members, and reported to six pastors at Mt.Moriah. During the years she has helped maintain the quality program at the Mt.Moriah center. Within her time the name was changed to The Mt. Moriah Ark of Learning Preschool and Child Care to emphasize the preschool and educational climate of the center. Through the last decade brain studies have recognized the importance of quality early childhood education. Lois has worked with the teaching staff of the center to maintain that quality and meet the individual needs of each child enrolled. When asked about her many years at Mt.Moriah, Lois said, "The rewards are many. I enjoy watching children grow and experiencing life as they see it. I enjoy sharing the lives of employees, becoming a part of the many families of our students, and working with the people of Mt.Moriah church." Lois is a Union Township resident. She and her husband, David, are the parents of two adult children and have two grandchildren. We congratulate Lois on her 35th anniversary and thank her for the contributions she has made and continues to make to the Mt.Moriahcommunity. |
