Jeremy Smith of Springdale Arkansas was recently back in town for a checkup at Cincinnati Children's.

Not only is Jeremy recovering beautifully from his bone marrow transplant but he is also finding a way to give back - to say thank you to Ronald McDonald house for the support he and his mom received here.  Jeremy organized his own pop tab collection program and the money he earned for recycling his tabs came right back to

Cincinnati's Ronald McDonald house.

Last year, Ronald McDonald house raised more than $13,000 from recycled pop tabs.

Remember to pop those tabs.  Just bring your tabs to Ronald McDonald house and we'll do the recycling for you.

Each summer, our Ark of Learning School Age Youth have a field trip that involves the donation of all poptabs collected within the previous year.  That trip is coming soon this month so if you have any collections of tabs laying around, bring them in to the office!  Thanks for helping the youth support a charity right here in our own backyard.

The Car-X Barrel - Our local Car-X has a promotion where if you bring in a canned good for a local food pantry, you receive a discount on your oil change.  EVERYONE WINS!  This is the 3rd pick up we have made from the barrel since the beginning of this partnership - When Kevin calls and says the bucket is full, some of our Mt. Moriah family volunteer to go do a pick up and we sort out the cans, then deliver them to SEM and IPM food pantries.  Thank you CAR-X for another way to have our community help serve others!totes

2009-10 4th Quarter Summary Comments:

This is the fourth and final report for fiscal year 2009-10 that began July 1, 2009.  Total giving for the General Fund, RSG and Apportionments was slightly (2.5%) below budget for the quarter.  This would not appear to be the case when looking at the Income/Expense numbers for the quarter.  The difference is that the quarterly income includes monies given for the Raise the Roof campaign and two (2) grants Mt Moriah has been blessed to receive.  All of these funds are designated and, therefore, cannot be used for purposes other than those specified.

For the year, total giving was less than 1% below plan, excellent results in such economically trying times.  This generous giving combined with the continued ability of the Ark of Learning to exceed their financial obligations coupled with the Finance Team's continued vigilant efforts to reduce expenses and use your financial gifts wisely have allowed us to continue to set aside $1250/month to the Dare to Dream account.  In addition, we have paid a total of 36.5% of our Conference and District apportionment obligations.  Specifically, the Ark exceeded our budget expectations by 50%.  At the same time, the Finance Team has identified and implemented cost reductions in phone service, property/casualty insurance and electric in the amount of approximately $14,000 annualized.  The net result is that Mt.Moriah is in good condition as we move into the new fiscal year.

Looking ahead to the fiscal year 2010-11, we will be continuing our Raise the Roof campaign.  As of this writing, we have raised nearly $22,000, 73% of the amount needed to replace the sanctuary roof.  Based on our success to date, this means we will, in all likelihood, defer any further work on the parking lots/drives until a later time.  We will also continue to set aside monies to our Dare to Dream account that will be used, in part, to support the new Youth Director position the Staff Parish Relations Team is working to fill.  Lastly, we anticipate an increase in our Apportionment requirements so that we can continue to do our share to spread the word of Jesus Christ well beyond the Mt.Moriah community.

The congregation of Mt. Moriah is truly blessed to have individuals who work and give together to support not only our own church, but also our neighbors and Christian brothers and sisters around the world!

BE THERE FOR "THE SAVED AND THE SEARCHING"

tsatsWow!  Is Mt. Moriah ever a busy place?  We just finished Vacation Bible School and on Thursday August 12 through Sunday, August 15, we will be presenting four performances of "The Saved and the Searching", an original musical written and directed by our own Director of Music Douglas M. Heflin.

This show tells us of God's forgiveness and reminds us that we need to forgive ourselves as well.  Half of the show is told during the filming of the soap opera, "The Saved and the Searching".  The other half is told after the filming has been completed for the day.  All of the actors and actresses in the soap opera will have two names; one is their real name and one is their character's name.  It is based on the scripture, Ezekiel 34.  "I will search for my lost...and strengthen the weak."

And what's a soap opera without commercials?  Proctor & Gamble would crumble and you'll laugh 'til you cry!  (Remember, Doug wrote this)  Many of our multi-talented Mt. Moriah family have been cast in the roles and are currently in rehearsal and working hard.  And the numbers behind the scenes are even more staggering.  Building sets, scenery, costumes, props, marketing, programs and promotional items.  There's a job for all of us, young and old, even with some help from our friends.

Have you ever seen a fish with glasses?  A rap master asparagus?  How about a dancing tomato or purple onion or cucumber?  Well then, this musical's for you!  Plan to attend one or all of these performances at Mt. Moriah's Sanctuary.

News from the Ark of Learning

finance chart   It's hard to believe that this is the last month of summer!!!  Our summer program has again been a huge success.  Thanks again to Pam Robinson for planning such an awesome summer of fun for our children here at the Ark.

Our children have been offsite on Tuesdays throughout the summer.  Some of our field trips have included the Loveland Castle, Jump Zone, The Recreation Center in Milford and many more.  In August one of our visits will be the Ronald McDonald House to deliver the tabs that our parents as well as our church family have collected through the year.

DUKE ENERGY does it again!!!!  Thanks to Mike and Linda Harp for applying for yet another Duke Grant.  We have received $1,000.00 toward the purchase of more mulch.

Please continue your prayers for our teacher Terry Pennington as she continues to recover - hopefully at home soon!

Registration for the fall session continues.  Please remember that the annual student fee is waived for our church members.

Burgers at Burger Ice Cream Trolley

AMAs invite you to come enjoy a picnic and cookout with burgers, ice cream sodas, music and games at the Burger Ice Cream Trolley on State  Rt. 32 just east of Newtown.  Join us for good food, good fellowship and a good time.  Ken and Sandy Burger and Bob and Phyllis Branson will host the event and supply the food and games.  Note that because of schedule conflicts, we will be meeting the third Saturday in August.  Please contact Sandy at 673-0225 or Phyllis at 528-1364 so we know how many to plan for.

August act of kindness:  Raise the Roof at Mt. Moriah. The campaign is going well, but we need to reach the goal so that the much needed repairs get done.

I will be forever grateful for the emails, calls, and prayers during my stay at University Hospital....Had it not been for the prayers I'm not sure what may have happened, but with the prayers I'm positively sure it contributed greatly to my recovery.  The power of prayer works - I'm proof...Thanks again and may God Bless you.

EASY MONEY
kroger cardIs there such a thing as easy money?  Well, thanks to Kroger we can easily earn money for our youth programming by continuing to do what we already do - buy groceries.  Here is a little bit about how the Kroger Neighborhood Rewards program works...

Kroger Neighborhood Reward Program

-         Purchase a processed card for $1.00.

-         Take the card to Kroger and LOAD whatever amount you want.

Use the card as a prepaid, reloadable credit card - once it is empty, just reload it!

 Simple Reloading . . .

· The card can be reloaded for ANY amount up to $250.

· Pay for the reloaded card with cash, check or major credit card.

Where do I reload the gift card?
Your gift card can be reloaded at the cash register prior to any of your purchases being scanned. This must be done in a separate transaction. Your gift card may also be reloaded at the customer service desk.

What can be purchased with gift cards?
You can purchase any merchandise in a Kroger store with the exception of services. Services include: Money Orders,
Western Union, Lottery Tickets, Stamps, and Ticket Master. Gift cards are now accepted at local Kroger Fuel Centers.

· When your non-profit organization reaches $5,000 with its initial

order plus reloads in our four-week cycle, we will send a check

to your organization for 4% of the total.

Total Purchase Earnings Your Organization Earns

$5,000 X 4% = $200

· If your organization doesn't reach $5,000 the money will carry over into the next four-week cycle.

IT'S THAT EASY

If you do not have a Kroger Rewards card, see Tasha Henderson or call the office for how to get one and start earning now!
