Change for change!
The change in all those Lenten Can Banks added up to quite a large Lenten Offering! A check for $1303.83 will be sent to the Jackson Area Ministries United Methodist Mission Program located in Jackson, Ohio. The donation will be used to help provide food, clothing, household items, and garden seeds of families who live in the Appalachian Area. Thank you Mount Moriah families and friends!

Keeping Covenant
As Christians we should know the importance of maintaining our covenant with the Lord our God, with each other, with our neighbors (all people). Today, there are numerous opportunities to do good, from "Save the Children" to Malaria Nets, from the Cincinnati Free Store to Felicity UMC to. . . . You can add still others to this list, with hundreds/thousands of opportunities to do good. What are we Christians to do? Resources are limited. As for me and my house we will serve the Lord our God.
Jesus came as the ultimate expression of God's love for you, me, all people. Sandy and I will find ways to give to His ministry - keeping covenant with God, you and the Christian ministries and missions of Mt. Moriah and the United Methodist Church. We will not be able to give to other worthy causes for resources are limited.
36"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'Matthew 22:37-39
The need for Jesus Christ is as real today as it was when He gave Himself for humanity by dying on the cross and three days later rising to life eternal. We can be united in covenant to the Christian ministries and missions that are counting on us through fair share support; apportionments and giving. A sample list of what our fair share support for Christian ministries makes possible through The United Methodist Church can be found on our webpage www.mtmoriahumc.org
When resources seem limited, focusing on established covenants builds ministry and trust together with relationships. There are those that based their 2009 ministry/budgets on trusting we would keep our covenant; Conference, District and Mt.Moriah ministries. We cannot faithfully, or fairly add additional good causes, ministries, until we fulfill our covenants.
Mt.Moriah has inspiring ministries for us to support in 2009-2010. Dare to Dream how you can support and strengthen our established covenants. Sharing Faith & Changing Lives

2008-9 3rd QUARTER INCOME/EXPENSES
|
|
2008-9 3rd Quarter summary comments:
This is the third report for our current 2008-9 fiscal year. We have now completed three quarters of the fiscal year. The small "cushion" we had as we entered this quarter in January got EXTREMELY small through January and February. As expected, Duke Energy got their fair share, but they did get less than they did last year due to our diligent efforts to conserve energy. The beautiful snows we had did cost some high removal costs, as the snows occurred on weekends, thus requiring additional expense to plow the Sanctuary lot. Lastly, our property taxes were paid in this quarter.
The numbers for the quarter would appear, at first glance, to be far worse than to say the cushion got extremely small. However, the reason for the negative balances in TOTAL and RSG are due to the replacement of the roof over the Education Building and the new flooring installed in Rooms 6 & 7 in that building. The total of $22,000 for this work was paid in full from the RSG balance we had accumulated from the generous giving of our congregation. What a blessing it is to be able to cover this size expense without asking for a special fund drive!
Looking forward to the fourth and last quarter of this fiscal year, we will continue to watch expenses very carefully and reduce them were possible. We continue to find new opportunities to reduce monthly expense items. This is a very difficult time financially for many. Each of us is working diligently to balance our personal financial books. Every day, we are presented with another "opportunity" - changing fuel costs, higher food costs, employment changes, an overall sagging economy, etc. Each of us must manage our financial resources as wisely as possible. During this time, each of us must pray that we do not view our financial support to Mt. Moriah as a discretionary expense that can be deferred or cut.
If you find that you will not be able to meet your pledge commitment, please contact our Finance Secretary, Kathy Herrmann, so she can adjust her projections appropriately. Similarly, if you have been blessed with a new, better job or salary increase, please consider notifying Kathy that you will be able to increase your giving. This information will allow the Finance Team to make adjustments to the budget as necessary. Kathy will keep this information in the strictest confidence.

GROWing Mission
At Mt. Moriah our missions are growing! And how exciting to have our entire church family involved! On March 29, Mt. Moriah's Sunday School and Youth Groups kicked off an 8-week food drive which benefits both the Inter Parish Ministry in Newtown and will also provide School Bag Kits to be presented at the 2009 Annual Conference in June.
On Sunday, April 26, the Youth invited the entire Mt. Moriah Family to join in the fun. The youth are divided into eight different food groups or "colors" and each group is working on providing items in their color. In order to insure a successful bounty, based on the first initial of their last name, the entire congregation was asked to join with one of the youth groups to help provide much needed food stuffs to those less fortunate in our community.
Inter Parish Ministry began in 1964 and includes Christians from over 36 congregations representing nine diverse denominations as well as numerous businesses, schools, community groups and individuals. Through IPM, these congregations not only help low- income people meet their daily needs, but they also help them begin to break the chains and cycle of poverty. The programs and services of IPM are geared to the ever-changing needs of the working poor and low-income families.
Because the need is now, we are not holding all donations until the end of the program on May 31. Doris Malany will collect the items brought in each Sunday and take them to Inter Parish Ministry as they become available. To keep track of how each group is progressing, there will be a display in the Sanctuary which will be updated weekly. Food items can be deposited in the container near the display each week. If you have questions regarding this "Family Affair", please contact Doris Malany or Marsha Murphy.
Here are some ways that God calls us to help in this mission:
Donate the food stuffs listed for your "Color"
Donate money to the Youth Group listed for your
last name and they will shop for what's needed
Volunteer to shop with your Youth Group when
it's time
Pray for Mt. Moriah to do God's work and provide
food and dignity to those less fortunate in our
community.

SUNDAY SCHOOL SCOOP

What a busy and generous group of kids Mt. Moriah's Sunday School is! On March 29, we met as a group and learned about a dynamic eight-week missions program which supports low-income people in our community.
Each child was given an envi-ronmentally friendly cloth shopping bag donated by Kroger in Cherry Grove, a list of food stuffs to be donated and a "Group" designation.
Because the need for food is so great right now, we are encouraging the children to bring in a small food donation each week so that Doris Malany can take what is collected each Sunday to Inter Parish Ministry in Newtown.
In just two weeks, our awesome kids collected 80 items to help feed the needy. And that's not all! On Palm Sunday, they presented their Jackson Area Ministry (JAM) cans of loose change and another loving food collection to SEM as part of our church-wide Lenten mission giving. It's obvious by the joy and enthusiasm on their faces, that these children are not only learning how to follow Jesus, but are putting their teachings into action.
Until our summer school program begins in June, our students will be learning about the first Christians and life in the early church. We encourage you to take a moment to thank our dedicated and loving teachers.
Pre-K-1st Grade- Kris Byrd, Sue Campbell & Cindy McCoy 2nd & 3rd Grade- Bruce Morris, Diane Morris & Melissa Whitaker 4th & 5th Grade- David Heflin, Sally Rosenzweig & Shannon Rosenzweig 6th-8th Grade- Scott Barrett & Rebecca Brewster Sr. High/College- Michael Kummer Floater- Laurie Tate

Youth in Missions
Making homes warmer, safer, and drier ... Transforming lives This motto, mission statement, whatever...it doesn't say all there is to say about this service mission. Not only are we working for others and providing them with needed repairs (sometimes beyond repair - rebuilding) to continue surviving in their homes, we ourselves are touched by the generosity of the families we serve. Mt. Moriah Youth have been participating in this mission service on and off for more years than this webservant has been associated with the church family. This year we are sending 23 individuals to Summers County, WV - 3 teams of teens with adult coordinators, and hope to continue growing along with this mission. Most of the youth that choose to go on this mission service trip raise the funds necessary tosecure their spot by participating in fundraisers, finding sponsors, and the church family participates in buying "shares" in the youth missionaries. 2006 was the first year for the "Shareholder" banquet, a dinner held to thank those who helped support the youth by purchasing "shares".
On May 3, 2009, Mt. Moriah Youth is having a Haircut-A-Thon, 12:30pm to 8pm. The cost of the hair cut is $10 and 100% of the cost goes to Appalachia Service Project. This event will be held at: Mt. Moriah United Methodist Fellowship Hall 681 Mt. Moriah Drive Cincinnati, OH 45245-2114 If you are not able to make this event and would like to help by donating to this cause please contact me by my cell.

News from the Ark of Learning
The signs of spring are all around: Flowers blooming, trees turning green and red watery eyes. These are the colors of spring. The children here at the Ark are thrilled to be able to get outside to play. We really enjoy the three playgrounds, our bike area and the shelter. Not many centers have the outside space that we do and we enjoy it all. Planning is well underway for the celebration for our 45th Anniversary. We have heard from some of our church families about how the child care center has played a part in their lives or their children's lives. We would love to hear more. We will be using these stories in our celebration. If you have come to the church office, you will see the beginnings of a blanket on the wall. Each square celebrates a former student or teacher. We are selling these squares for $5.00 each to help with the expenses of the celebration. It is starting to look great!! If you are interested in a square please see Linda, Margaret or Charlotte. Most of our families have heard about our center from people that have been involved at the Ark or the Church. Please continue to refer families to our center. We are now registering for our summer and fall programs. Our Mission Statement: To be a quality educational center that makes a loving difference in the lives of young children and their families. |

==========================================
Dear friend of SEM
This past week your church delivered 68 bags of food to the SEM Food Pantry. What a magnificent collection and what a blessing it is to our food pantry. Please convey to your congregation our heartfelt thanks for their excellent effort to help the needy of the area.
During 2008 the SEM Food Pantry served 10, 561 clients in the Mt. Washington/Anderson Township/Western Clermont County area, all of whom qualified for assistance because they were at or below poverty level. We have experienced no let-up in the demand during the first quarter of 2009 and expect this year to equal the 2008 experience. Because of the support of your church and other churches in SEM, we have been able to meet the current demand. We are also able to devote almost all of our resources to our clients because we operate with an all-volunteer staff (no one is on the payroll), our overhead is less than 4 cents of each dollar, and we partner with the Freestore Foodbank to purchase food at 10 cents per pound and receive surplus food from the US Department of Agriculture and the State of Ohio. We pledge to you to make good use of your support to us.
Thank you again for your contribution. Should you have any questions about the SEM Food Pantry or the operation of SEM in general, please contact me. I can be reached at 752-6569 or email at Segdirb1@juno.com . Sincerely Robert T. Bridges, Treasurer, SEM

On behalf of Inter Parish Ministry I'd like to thank you for your generous contribution of food supplies to our choice food pantry in February 2009. Because of your thoughtfulness we are able to continue to meet some of the needs of many low income families in Clermont and Eastern Hamilton counties.
Inter Parish Ministry continues to see an increase in the number of families coming for emergency food assistance. In 2008 we served 2279 families or 8162 men, women and children, which is a 33% increase from 2007. With unemployment rates and healthcare costs continuing to rise and a surge in the number of people seeking emergency food assistance for the first time, 2009 is sure to be another busy year for the pantry. As we continue to hear stories of families eating less food, smaller meals and even skipping meals because they lack the resources to buy food, it has become IPM's goal - with your help - to provide as many families with food as we are able.
Thank you for your support of Inter Parish Ministry. Your donations are always welcome. Sincerely, Sarah L. Cadle Service Coordinator, IPM |
