Greetings!

The City of Green is engaging in more regular conversations with our greatest asset, our local businesses, in order to share important City updates, provide information about local business assistance programs, as well as welcome and recognize local business successes.

City Update
Green Alert - New Wireless Emergency Notification System
 
Fire truckIn August the City of Green unveiled its new Wireless Emergency Notification System (WENS) to make citizens and those working in our community aware of severe weather, emergency evacuations, exposures, flooding, road closures and other public safety information.  
 
In the event of an emergency, those registered for Green Alert will receive an e-mail, text or voice message to their cell phone, office phone or computer.  The Fire Division is asking each business to register their main office line for voice alerts and to encourage employees to sign-up for text message alerts.  To sign-up to receive these alerts, click here.
Charting the Course

The City of Green is hosting "Charting the Course," a series of discussions aimed towards issues that affect area business owners.  on Thursday, November 5 at 8:00 AM (8:30 AM program to begin) at the City of Green's Central Administration Building, 1755 Town Park Boulevard.  The discussion will update business owners on business incentives and assistance programs, road construction updates and much more.  If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to Amy Sehm at 330.896.6602 or asehm@cityofgreen.org by October 30.

Portage Lakes Career Center
The Portage Lakes Career Center (PLCC) offers a wide range of professional development offerings geared towards small businesses and corporate employees alike.  Best of all, PLCC is located right here in Green and offers training at reasonable and competitive prices.  Course offerings range from management/supervision and human resources to sales/customer service, health care and beyond.  Some of these courses have been granted CEU's.

Employment Resource Center at The Job Center
The Employment Resource Center at The Job Center is run by Goodwill Industries and provides services for both businesses and job seekers at no costs.  The Job Center offers employers free job posting, applicant matching, recruitment, skill and aptitude testing, pre-screened applicant pool, on-the-job training and much more.  For more information on the FREE services available to businesses in Summit County, click here.

Third Frontier Internship Program
The Ohio Third Frontier Internship Program is geared toward assisting businesses finance the hiring of interns in specific areas.  The overarching goal of the program is to develop a pool of talented workers for Ohio businesses and assist students in obtaining full-time, permanent employment in Ohio after they graduate.  Businesses who are interested in learning about how they can apply for state support for such programs.
 
The program will pay 50 percent of the student's wages, up to $3,000.  For more information about the program, and how to apply, click here

Ultimate Jetcharters, located at the Akron-Canton Airport, recently expanded its hanger space at the airport to accommodate larger aircraft.  The 25-year-old company now has three hangers at the airport.

We've Moved!

If you haven't heard, the City Administrative Offices have moved to 1755 Town Park Blvd.  This new building allows City services that were split amongst several buildings to be located in one space to best serve residents and businesses.  This new building is also home to the Green Local Schools Administrative Offices, which were previously located in the basement of Kleckner Elementary School.
