Five exciting classes are planned for July including Hybrid Vehicle Rescue, Fire Officer I, Certified Fire Safety Inspector, Fire Ground Tactics, and Firefighter I&II.  Keep an eye out for regular announcements on training opportunities at the Academy and don't forget to forward these emails to a friend who may also be interested.  

WHY ARE ACADEMY CLASSES DIFFERENT? 

These classes are instructed by premiere instructors of public safety services.  Many courses are delivered in an accelerated format that facilitates students in mastering the basic principles and skills needed to make an immediate impact in their work.

HOW DO I LEARN MORE OR REGISTER? 

See the list below for links to more information about each course offered this August.  You can register for courses by visiting our website and completing the online student application. Scroll down, find your class, and click apply.

The Ohio Fire Academy's toll-free number: 888-726-7731.  While local hotel accommodations are available  (pdf) the Ohio Fire Academy has dorm rooms available for $30 a night.

Join Clean Fuels Ohio & the Division of State Fire Marshals for a free, full day workshop designed to educate first responders on safety issues related to Natural Gas and Electric powered cars and trucks.  Learn from expert instructors, inspect on site vehicles, and hear how many of these vehicles will soon be on Ohio's roads.

HybridHybrid Vehicle Rescue Awareness 
Brief Description: Review of hybrid vehicles and responder safety.

FOFire Officer I
Brief Description: This intensive program has been redesigned to meet the needs of the Ohio Fire Service. The course reinforces content with writing, role playing, and tactical simulations. Fire Officers learn to accomplish Department goals and objectives by working through subordinates to achieve desired results.

Prereq: Firefighter II

FSICertified Fire Safety Inspector
Brief Description: This course prepares students for the EMS Fire Safety Inspector examination. Topics include the fire inspector's responsibilities and role in code enforcement, general fire prevention preactices & competencies, life safety considerations, fire safety requirements related to Haz.Mat.; electrical systems; occupancy and fire protection systems.

FGTFire Ground Tactics for Small Fire Departments
Brief Description: The class will focus on how different fire departments can work together and increase their fire ground capabilities. Pre-Incident planning and training will help build the team approach to handling the day to day operations, as well as large scale incidents.
Dates: 8/17-8/18 (Registration Deadline 7/18)
Prereq: None; Students need to bring PPE and SCBA for this class

Brief Description: 7-week accredited course designed to train and certify firefighters

If you are concerned about the cost of training, make sure to talk to your Training Officer or Chief or call the Academy toll-free at 888-726-7731.  Some classes do have grants available.  Remember, registration deadlines are 30 days before the start of a class, so talk to someone now to ensure you still have enough time to register.
