Keep an Eye on the Harbor During the Winter with Our Updates

Message From John Lusty, GM

Sad to say but the 2011 boating season has come to a close.  Brandon and the crew are now focused on winterizing engines and preparing boats for winter storage.  It's not too late to make arrangements with us for the winter so please call Brandon and he will help you get your boat to bed.  Below you will find some information about these services.  Our rates for winter services still remain at 2008 levels.

If you are thinking about repowering before next season, consider taking advantage of Evinrudes T-Tec Fall Into Action Sales Event: 5-Year limited warranty (an additional 3 years on top of their 2) and free rigging up to a $5,800 value, see below for more information.

Again we had wonderful weather which ran through most of Memorial Day through Columbus Day period, there was a lot of great boating to be had in 2011. Our customers reported many days of fabulous conditions for fishing and entertaining.

I would like to take this time and thank our new customers for joining the YHMS family.  The Hammond family, Wright family, Patterson, and Timmins family have all joined us for the 2011 season and continuing for 2012!  We all hope you have enjoyed your time here and for many more years to come.

Congratulations to our new Boston Whaler owners!  This was a great year for us and it has been our pleasure to include:

The Cains, Logans, Comptons, Van Patton's, Charles, Bristows, Paiges, Talkovs, Amers and Wagoners to our Boston Whaler family.  Enjoy your new Whalers for many years to come!  And remember we are here to help you get the most out of your Whaler.

2012 Boston Whalers Are Arriving
The 2012 Boston Whalers have started to arrive. New Montauks, Super Sports, and Dauntless' are starting to arrive; so come on down and take a look.  If you would like to have the full line Whaler 2012 catalog delivered to your door request one at www.bostonwhaler.com.

210 Montauk
Highlighting the 2012 model year is the new 210 Montauk.
The all new 210 Montauk takes this classic model to new levels of functionality and possibility.  Its standard high-value boat-motor-trailer package included a 150-hp Mercury FourStroke outboard and capacious 70-gallon fuel tank, allowing you to go farther and boat longer than ever before.  The larger size allows for an expansive forward deck area, which features a large fishbox, anchor locker and a convertible cooler seat with backrest.  Anglers will appreciate the ample workspace, as well as the six standard rod holders and an optional aft livewell with two additional rod holders.  The 210 steps it up in comfort too, with an enclosed head, forward bow cushion, and additional aft seating options.  More options, like a T-top, ski tow arch and split bow rails allow you to outfit your Montauk to suit any boating application.

Whether you are in the market to buy or sell a boat, give YHMS a call.  Contact John on extension 13.
boat with portable fuel tanks Storing Portable Fuel Tanks
If you have portable gas tanks, we recommend you empty them before storing your boat for the winter or bringing it to us for storage. With the introduction of ethanol in gasoline, most engine manufactures recommend that the small portable tanks are drained at the end of the season.  YHMS intends to follow their recommendation and we will dispose of any gas left in portable tanks.  Since most fuels have unknown levels of additives or oil mix (2-strokes) this fuel is considered to be "waste oil" and YHMS will have to recycle it.  You can pour the gas into the tank of your car, or truck, or snow blower, where it will be burned much sooner.  If you just let it sit all winter, it will likely be unusable next boating season because of separation caused by moisture in the ethanol blend. If you bring your boat to us for storage and the tanks are not empty, we will empty them for you but there will be a fee to cover our hazardous materials handling costs.
Irene
The Calm Before The Storm
Tropical Storm Irene

For our first storm of the season we came through with flying colors!  Luckily Irene slowed down on her way up the coast and lost a lot of steam before reaching us.  Thank you all for your understanding for the necessity of hauling boats and the the precautions we took to ensure the safety of the marina, our staff, and your boat.  We would rather be well prepared then not at all.  For any of you that still are recovering from Irene our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Wintering Well
The key to preparing your boat for next year's boating season is protecting it from winter's harsh weather. In the northeast, this includes removing your boat from the water for on-land storage, covering the boat, and winterizing the engine. YHMS can provide you with all of these services.  We can winterize most engine types, provide storage for sail and power boats, and can install shrink-wrap cover.

Honda MotorEngine Winterization Services

We can winterize most makes and models of outboard engine. The table below shows the fixed labor charge for outboard engine winterizations at YHMS. Parts and materials are extra. We also winterize I/Os and Inboards.

Boat with Shrink WrapCovering and Storing Your Boat for the Winter
The main reason to cover your boat prior to winter is to keep out the rain and snow.  Water can accumulate under rail fittings, hatches, hinges, rub rails, etc.  When the weather drops below freezing, ice can form that may break or loosen them enough to create one or more leaks in the boat.  Covering your cleaned boat will keep it clean and protected from the harsh elements of Mother Nature including sun fading.  We recommend covering your boat as soon as possible to protect your investment during the off season.

Year Round Boat Insurance

Each time we put this out I try and find a picture that most people can relate to so you all understand the importance of having boat insurance.
All boat owners should have boat insurance that is in effect throughout the whole year - not just for those months when your boat is in the water.
Claims in northern states are made during the period from labor day to memorial day - the off boating season.  Please take the time and check what your home owners insurance covers, if you need additional coverage, and what is exactly covered on your insurance.  If you do not have boat insurance or are unsure about your coverage, call your insurance agent.
As with most boatyards and marinas, YHMS has a long-standing policy that states "Insurance coverage is the responsibility of the boat owner. YHMS assumes no responsibility for loss, theft or damage." This applies to boats on the docks, in storage, or here for repairs.

Summer 2012 Slip and Rack Openings
YHMS offers both slip and valet rack service dockage plans. Our annual dockage plans begin October with winter storage and continue through the summer boating season in 2012. Summer only plans are also available.  Current slip/rack customers must confirm to us their intent to return by November 1st, after which we will know how many slips (and of what size) and rack spaces will be open for 2012. Securing a spot this fall means you can opt for an annual plan which include winter cover and storage at our package rates. If you would like more information about our slip and rack services please call us at (207) 363-3602 or email office@yorkharbormarine.com.
