Sukkot Shabbat Service Friday, October 5, 6:30 pm |
|
Please join Rabbi Sklarz and Cantor Lipton for a Sukkot Family Shabbat Service, featuring B'nai Shir, followed by an Oneg Shabbat generously sponsored by the Nirschel Family in honor of Rebecca becoming a Bat Mitzvah.
Those with October birthdays will be called to the bimah for a special birthday blessing. Children age 13 whose birthday is in October will also receive a gift in honor of their birthday.
We'd love it if you would sponsor an Oneg Shabbat -- perhaps in honor of a birthday, anniversary, a special event, or just in celebration of Shabbat. Just call the temple office (203-629-0018) to select a convenient date, and send us a check for $108. No muss, no fuss, it's as easy as that!

Celebrating Memories as GRS Moves Forward Dear Friends, As the family of Greenwich Reform Synagogue travels to our future, join with us as we experience the last month in our sanctuary of the last twenty years: October 5, we will share the beauty of Sukkot within our Sukkah on the bimah; October 12, the excitement of Simchat Torah as we spread open the Torah scroll around our children; October 19, GRSTY (Greenwich Reform Synagogue Temple Youth) installation, and on October 26, Board Installation and Farewell to the Stanwich Road Sanctuary... and as we journey forward to create new memories, I would like to invite each one of you to share your favorite mementos of life at GRS thus far!
With the goal of creating a GRS Memory Box, kindly send your photos, artifacts and personal pieces (in prose or poetry) which share significant moments in our history to Denise at denise@grs.com. Looking forward to our celebrating the GRS of yesteryear and embracing our future.

A Message from Robert Birnbaum President of GRS Board of Trustees |

GRS takes more big steps
On Thursday evening the congregation voted overwhelmingly to approve the purchase of the proposed site for our new synagogue. On Tuesday we closed on the first lot, 92 Orchard, which is now GRS property. Today, we file the first of our applications with Greenwich Planning and Zoning, this one for the required lot line revision which will allow us to go forward with the purchase of the other lots.
Looking forward, over the next few days the committee which will drive the process to select an architect - in fact, the entire design process - will get down to work. My goal is to keep everyone informed of the major issues under discussion and the important decision points. As always, feel free to contact me rbirnbaum@grs.org with questions or comments.
Congratulations to all involved in making this happen and to the congregation as a whole, and a hearty Mazel Tov!

B'nai Mitzvah Profile - Rebecca Nirschel Saturday, October 6, 2012
|
| |
Rebecca, (also known as Becca), will be called to the Torah as a Bat Mitzvah on October 6. Her proud parents are Marcy and Marty Nirschel. Rebecca is in the eighth grade at Bi-Cultural Day School, and has three siblings, Michael (19), Annie (17) and Jessica (9). Rebecca is interested in soccer, bicycling, cross country running and rock climbing. She also loves hanging out and playing with her sisters.
In addition, Rebecca enjoys babysitting and helping her older sister run birthday parties for children at the Stamford JCC. Her greatest achievements have come from working with special needs children in the Friendship Circle program.
For her mitzvah project, last year Rebecca took training classes with the Friendship Circle in Stamford to become a teen volunteer. Since then, she has volunteered regularly at the Friendship Circle. She loves being with the children, and they, in turn, adore her.
