Torah Portion September 15, 2012
| Nitzavim
Deuterononomy 29:9-31:30 In Nitzavin Moses delivers his third farewell address. He prophesizes that Israel will break the Covenant with God, and will be punished by destruction and exile. Following Israel's teshuvah (repentance/return to their holy state), God will forgive them. The portion closes with Moses telling the people that they have a choice between life and prosperity or death and adversity. In choosing to obey God's commandments, the people choose life and will be able to enjoy the land that God promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. |

Yom Kippur Food Drive
|
|
This year, as in years past, GRS will be handing out empty food bags on Rosh Hashanah. Please take them home, fill them up and return them to GRS on Yom Kippur.
The need for food has increased significantly over the summer, and one of the most sought after items is peanut butter which has doubled in price (family size jars only).
If you won't serve a food to family or friends, please do not include it in your donation.

A Message from Rabbi Sklarz
|
|
Dear Friends,

Within days, the 1st of the Hebrew month of Tishrei will be upon us,
and we will join together for the Yamim HaNo'ra'im, the Days of Awe.
As we enter this sacred juncture in time, only days following the eleventh commemoration of
9-11, let us ever be cognizant that we are called upon to work for a world of peace in every realm of human existence. Let us look deep within in order to grow, with the heartfelt desire to better our world.
May the year 5773 bring forth healing and harmony for all of God's children.
Shana Tovah,
Rabbi Andy
