A Message from Rabbi Sklarz

JOIN our GRS CONFIRMATION CLASS FOR A MOST MEANINGFUL SERVICE
Dear Friends,
This Shabbat, the parents of our Confirmation class have planned a sumptuous Oneg Shabbat to celebrate Shavuot, and I am told, there will be some extra special flair. However, the real celebration is of course is to honor their wonderful children, who will be conducting our service.
During the past year, I have had the delight of sharing the classroom with four outstanding young people. Our focal point has been the section of the Mishna known as Pirke Avot - Ethics of the Fathers. Together we have discussed how the ancient text speaks to the Reform Jew of the 21st century and impacts the life decisions of these young adults. Our exploration has been quite deep, as we have branched into a host of important issues and as each student has grappled with his or her sense of personal theology.
I CANNOT ENCOURAGE YOU ENOUGH to witness the fruits of GRS and support our young people. Indeed, we need them for the future of GRS and Jewish life, and THEY NEED US to show them how much their dedication to Jewish learning is valued.
Our Confirmands are indeed blessings. I look forward to you and your families sharing this special Shabbat with our GRS family, and of course, enjoying the wonderful Oneg Shabbat!
B'Shalom - With peace, Rabbi Andy

A Fond Shalom to a Dear Friend, Erin Thomas | | |
For the past three years, GRS has been fortunate to have had Erin Thomas greeting everyone from the front desk and over the phone, as well as handling an abundance of administrative duties. Erin has become a very special part of our congregation.
Friday, June 1, will be Erin's last day at GRS as she moves on to a full-time position at Central Synagogue in NYC, where she has recently relocated with her fiance, Christopher Bouchard.
Erin, GRS thanks you for all you have done, above and beyond your responsibilities! We wish you the very best in all of your future endeavors and will miss seeing you each day. And, of course, you will always be part of our temple family.

Important Update on the GRS Future Building Plans
| | |
We are delighted to inform you that the contract with the Stanwich School has been signed, and all is on track for the closing on June 1, 2012. Our search teams are in full swing, both to find temporary and permanent locations for our synagogue, religious school, and the future GRS preschool. A number of options are under investigation, and although it's premature to share any details, it looks very promising. We don't want to miss any possibilities, so if you have any suggestions for a temporary space, please contact Helen Stark at 203-622-1732 or stark110@optonline.net; if you have any recommendations for purchase options, please contact Sandy Soule at 203-637-7642 or sandy.soule@gmail.com.
