AYF Endorsed Insurance Program:
Beware Other Programs That Purport To Be Superior

The AYF / AYC endorsed team/association/conference insurance program through Sadler Sports Insurance has continuously provided high limits and broad coverages at extremely competitive prices. The insurance policies include the elimination of many dangerous exclusions and the addition of custom coverage enhancements to better protect AYF / AYC administrators and volunteers against devastating lawsuits. The rates for the Excess Accident and General Liability are based on the loss history of the entire group and are negotiated with the carriers annually with many rate decreases occurring over the past five years.

Like any other industry, there is always competition in insurance. One particular competitor has engaged in advertising practices in its emails and on its website that have led to consumer confusion for a number of AYF organizations.
The competitor's advertisement is worded in a way where many readers mistakenly believe that the per team price is for both Excess Accident and General Liability combined and they conclude that the competitor's offering is much less expensive than what is offered by AYF / AYC. However, the rate that is shown is actually for General Liability only and does not include the cost for the Excess Accident policy which must be computed based on the number of players. The advertisement does not provide a means for computing the Excess Accident charges. When the price for the Excess Accident is later computed after completing an application, the per team price for both policies dramatically increases to a level which is similar to the per team price for the AYF / AYC program. Several AYF organizations actually received quotes from this competitor last season and were frustrated after going through a lengthy and time consuming application process to later find out that they were not going to get the "deal" that they thought they would get.

The moral of this story is that there is no "magic bullet" to get a "deal" that is significantly less expensive than the endorsed AYF / AYC insurance program. If there was a way to do this, we would already be doing it. If a competing program purports to provide a significant price reduction, you need to look more closely and will find out that a policy is being left out of the pricing (ex: Excess Accident) or the coverages are grossly inferior.

The new 2012/2013 rates should be released by March 15

Giving Back

LET'S KEEP SPREADING THE LOVE!

AYF is always "giving back!" Thanks to the extreme generosity from West Coast's AYF Southern Marin, AYF was given the opportunity to disperse football equipment among three associations on the West Coast!

Bill O'Hearn, Southern Marin's Director of Equipment, states, "we try to demonstrate compassionate support and concern for our players and their families. This is just an extension of that belief."

Thanks to Southern Marin Conference, to Bill O'Hearn, Curt Hagfeldt, and Steve Moreno for setting a perfect example of Giving Back!

If you or someone you know has FOOTBALL or CHEER uniforms/equipment to donate please contact AYF GIVING BACK so that we can keep the spirit of "giving back" strong through this off-season!

Joe's Presidents Corner

The difference between humans and any other living thing on this planet is man's ability to communicate in symbolic futures otherwise known as "words". I have been on this earth since Elvis was a truck driver. Yet I confess to having mixed feelings about words. I have heard so much false bravado words from those who cannot "walk the walk". The pubs of America are full of guys who can "talk the talk".

The Media reports leading up to Super Bowl Sunday is an example of hyperbole. Eli Manning was chastised for answering "Yes" when asked if he thought he was one of the elite Quarterbacks in the NFL. But Wow, he did it again, lead his team to came from behind in the fourth quarter to victory!

The miracle known as the spoken word, in lyrics or prose can conger up treasured memories and feelings. Words are powerful, real things to be valued. You can build some one up or shatter their dreams with words. Words can empower a troubled individual in a time of need. Leaders need to know why there is a problem and discuss it openly. It is said that a lie goes around the world twice before the truth gets down the block. Rumors and hateful words involve too much wasted energy. We all have an obligation to others to think before we speak. The most effective leaders, parents, and coaches kindly speak consistent words of encouragement. The most powerful people in the Free World kindly speak of uniting mankind, while tyrants throw insults and threats our way.

A very real danger is that the spoken word can divide us. We all need to fight against those who use words to promote HATE. At American Youth Football, our success has resulted in those seeking power to report half-truths. I wish I did not have to answer such emails and calls of those using hateful words. This is so contrary to why AYF was founded. Yet, some people try to play one individual or group against the other. If an organization helps children, they have a value.

Never tear down someone's hard work for selfish reasons. The situation is as old as the Bible and as clear as the constitution. We are "thy brothers keeper" and you should "love thy neighbor" as every person has an unalienable right, " to pursue life liberty and happiness". When you are busy rowing - you wont have time to rock the boat.

Who has it better than Americans who lead kids?   True happiness is when your share with others.   Don't envy or compare.  I will continue to say, "do unto others as you would have them do unto you".  Everyone deserves to be loved and cherished by their, families, friends, teams, and Community. Be aware that to be kind, does not indicate a weakness.

My favorite quotes are those spoken by powerful men at critical times in History. "We stand today on the edge of a new frontier - a frontier of unfilled hope and unfilled dreams. For man holds today in his hands the power to eliminate all forms of human suffering or all forms of human life.  Let us go forth to lead, with History the final judge of our deeds, knowing Gods work is truly our own".

An ancient parable went like this: "To attempt to take back words you have spoken is like tearing open your pillow and casting the feathers to the wind. Then try to gather back up all those feathers and put them back in your pillow". That is the same as trying to take back Words you have spoken".  Or, as my Dad once said, "You can't put the tooth paste back in the tube once you squeeze it out". Be careful with your choice of words.
