Energy Up!
Remember to eat small amounts of bananas or energy bars throughout your event. By eating and staying hydrated during long matches or competition, it can lead to better performance.

What the kids are saying these days.
Here is a piece of action on AYFPlayers.com
How has football changed/helped your life? Football has changed my life by getting me in shape more, help me face my fears and a good way to get noticed in your local area. ~Rambo
Why do you like going to Sports Camps? I like going to sports camps because they improve the skill you are interested in. I also like them because you can compete. But the main thing I like about sport camps is that you get pushed harder. It builds up your footwork and it makes you think wiser. ~Allen
Tell us about your pre-game warm ups and rituals Most importantly, I stretch before the game cause I don't want to get an injury if I get hit and I try not to eat any junk food to deactivate my strength or energy. ~Shaquan

Joe's Presidents Corner
Noblesse Oblige --- You've been elected - now what? Congratulations on your new position as leader of your Association. The title President, Chairman, Commissioner doesn't really matter - now your it. Oh the power, the delegations, the responsibilities are all coming at you. Not exactly what you imagined is it? Don't worry, you were elected because of your people skills. You learned early in life it is far better to give than to receive. Public service can be rewarding. Serving Youth is the highest service need; therefore, the most rewarding of all. Job one, find people who are like-minded. Ask them to serve with you on the Association's Board of Directors. Look for a variety of backgrounds to fill your Board positions.
Every business needs a foundation of the four pillars. They are Sales, Production, Finance and Research.
Finance. I'll bet the first thing you did was check the bank balance. That's smart thinking. Excessive spending must always be avoided. It is important to enlist a treasurer who has accounting experience. They will be preparing and presenting transparent financial reports at your Association's meetings. Checks must be signed by you and your treasurer. This keeps both of you in the loop at all times. Share with him/her the resources at MyAYF.com. We have sample association budgets, tip sheets, etc. Sign up for Directors and Officers, plus Crime Insurance as a safeguard.
Production may be thought of as winning on the field. Your Football and Cheer Commissioners must understand that safety is their first obligation. If winning is all you want, you will fail. Winning should be the collective product of coaches who know the sport and teach it safely. Remember to include fun and friendship and to love all the kids. Background checks are a must. Coach's Training is critical to the safety and well being of your youth. Every coach, no matter how experienced, needs to learn or review the updated AYF Training Course. Evaluate your coaches every year. Only retain those who value the kids' experience.
Research. Keep yourself up-to-date on the latest news in youth sports. The troublesome issues in college and pro sports will soon trickle down to the youth level. Try to recruit a lawyer to be on your board of directors. Attend the AYF Leadership Meetings for the very latest updates. Use the AYF Operations Manual, Resource Guide and Forms available on MyAYF.com. Most important of all - listen to your leaders' feedback.
Sales is a combination of doing a good job with all of the above. A marketing company report claims that there are eight people for every one youth participant. Think about how many people your Association reaches. Word of mouth is the best sales tool. Therefore, every participant times eight and everyone they know are selling your program. Communication must be consistent to be effective. A mission like improving your community will sell the parents on sharing their children's time with your Association. An example of a worthwhile mission is the Kraft Huddle to Fight Hunger campaign, matching AYF's goal of "Completing the Circle of Giving Back." Giving back to your community will insure a solid foundation of good people and volunteers. If you honestly share your goals with your membership, you will create a team synergy that is more powerful than any one individual. Good luck in your new position. AYF is at your service!
