Happy Thanksgiving From Arts in McNairy!

It is a busy time of year for various committees of Arts in McNairy.  In less than a two week period, these dedicated individuals will stage a major musical production; the book club wrap party; an always popular community Christmas concert and the holiday version of the AiM Artisan Trail.  Needless to say, this will involve, literally, hundreds of volunteers all coming together to make the holiday season more enjoyable for locals and visitors alike.  We would, therefore, be remiss if we did not pause to consider how thankful we are for everyone who sacrifices their personal time and resources to insure that our community has these wonderful opportunities to participate in the arts.

We have also been blessed with a great community and discerning local leadership who generously and consistently support the efforts of AiM volunteers with donations and good attendance at all of our cultural programs.  We also want to say just how thankful we are to be involved with that kind of community.  It makes serving a joy.

As Arts in McNairy rounds out the year, we look forward to a great 2010 and the schedule is already beginning to fill up with arts activities.  We also expect to make an exciting announcement in early 2010 about a project that has been in the works for more than two years.  Keep your fingers crossed!  As usual, we will take a brief break through the holidays but a new edition of "Taking AiM" will be out in January to keep you informed about the cultural events and happenings in McNairy and surrounding counties.  Until then, we wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.

So, get busy on those costumes and, as always, invite a friend to come along!  Book Club is free and open to the public.  All book lovers are encouraged to attend to give their input on the book of the month or suggest literary works for inclusion on future reading lists.

Christmas Concert and Selmer Christmas Parade December 3
2B Pottery
One of the most anticipated events on the county  cultural calendar is the  community Christmas concert.  The concert, which is sponsored by the Arts in McNairy Music Committee, is typically hosted by one of the area churches in order to accommodate the seating demands of a large, enthusiastic audience.  This year's version of the popular holiday concert will be held on the same night as the Selmer Christmas parade so that holiday revelers can take advantage of both events.  The concert will be held at 6:30 at Selmer First Baptist Church, located at the end of the parade route, while the parade will get underway  at 8:00.  The concert is free to the public but tax deductible gifts to Arts in McNairy are always appreciated.

Scheduled for December 3, 2009, the concert will feature almost 100 adult voices in the AiM Holiday Singers; a 60 member youth choir and hand bell ensemble and the 30 member Community Band.  Special guests this year will include, MCHS choir student Chelsea Rhodes and the popular vocal group 4-Joy.   Conducting the Holiday Singers will be Guy Grimstead, Gene Hebert and Sarah Lemons.  Pam Stackhouse will conduct the children's choir and Ronnie Brooks will direct the community band.

The concert has become something of a tradition in the community.  It is a great way to get into the holiday spirit each year.
