PEACE CRANES INHABITING SK . . . The arts classes will be strategically placing origami peace cranes throughout the school to symbolize our hope for peace and recovery for Japan and its citizens.

Peace Cranes became a symbol of hope and peace when a young girl named Sadako Sasaki was a victim of radiation disease (Leukemia) from the atom bomb which fell on Hiroshima in 1945. She died at the age of 12.  She tried to fold a thousand cranes, a symbol of longevity, with the belief she would recover if she accomplished the task.
She could only complete 644, but millions of children all over the world sent cranes to Hiroshima to express their own hope for peace.

We are placing these cranes all over the school in strategic places as a symbol of our hope for Japan.
Looking Ahead . . .
