Ski Tours; Get to Know the Mountain
Utah offers an extremely diverse range of mountains, slopes, and conditions for skiers and snowboarders. Some resorts - such as Brian Head in southern Utah and Brighton in the Cottonwoods - are known for their beginner-friendly runs. Other ranges, such as Snowbird Ski Resort, are known for their exciting, challenging terrain, but are a good place to learn if you want to sharpen your skills fast. In either case it can be intimidating to approach a new resort and try to navigate the trails blindly. Click here to read the rest of Ski Tours; Get to Know the Mountain, to learn about free ski tours. |
Keeping Costs Down as the Fun Shapes Up
Whether a skier needs lessons or is skilled enough to take a free mountain tour, whether a group stays at the resort or at a private home, there are ways to cut costs on a ski vacation, without cutting the quality and fun out of the vacation. "One way of saving is to purchase discounted lift tickets at area ski shops," says Robyn Orme of Utah Vacation Homes. "But, another way some people may not consider is by shopping around for transportation. Park City in particular has a great free shuttle system that runs throughout the city including all of Park City's major attractions like Deer Valley Resort, Park City Mountain Resort, The Canyons, Utah Olympic Park, restaurants, night life, etc." Robyn suggests searching for lodging in homes, condos, or hotels located on a free shuttle route to help keep those costs down. |
Mountains by Day... City by Night
The Utah ski industry is proud of many things: world class resorts, "The Greatest Snow on Earth", something for all levels of skiers and snowboarders, family atmosphere AND nightlife, and most of all - Proximity! Nowhere else in North America can you get off a plane, be on the slopes in 30 minutes, enjoy the mountains by day and have plenty of time to enjoy the city by night.
Skiers at the Downtown Shilo Inn Suites Hotel, enjoy:
- Easy 45-minute (or less) drive to seven world class ski resorts
- Heart of downtown - dining, shopping and entertainment in walking distance
- Free Ski shuttle stops directly in front of the hotel
- Lower hotel rates than you might expect

| Tip of the Ski - Picking a Ski Resort
Picking the best ski resort for your skill level and terrain preference is important. Heading to a resort just because you've heard the name before could leave you spending your whole day maneuvering down a tricky hill that you're unprepared for or you might be bored to tears if you're an advanced skier. All ski resorts have websites now offering trail maps. It's important to check the maps before you go to make sure there are enough runs in your skill level to keep you interested for however long you plan to spend there. You'll also want to check the snow conditions at each resort. While advanced powder skiers and riders boast, "No friends or family on a pow day," a beginner might have a harder time getting through thick powder and dealing with reduced visibility. Many resort sites have a snow report, but you can go to Ski 'N See's site for a list of all Utah resorts' ski conditions at once.
