What Are We Up To This Week?

This week I am just going to be working on adding new content to the blog so lots of peace and quiet and some time with my laptop in conservatory relaxing and typing.

I am also working on the new audio programme which also requires peace and quiet but is also very exciting.

And finally if there is time I will be doing another podcast for iTunes this week.

Greetings!

Good Morning!

How are you?

I hope you have had a great week and have some good stuff planned for this weekend. It is already nearly a month into 2010 and I hope you have already completed or are well into some of those New Year resolutions you set yourself to do!

One of my new year things was to start blogging again, back when I reduced my weight in 2005 I blogged everyday on the Internet on how I was feeling and what I was up to, I loved doing it and found it helped me loads but then unfortunately the web company went bust and the blog was lost.

Anyway I was then told I wasn't allowed to blog anymore so had to stop but I decided in December that I love doing these newsletters but actually loads of times during the week I think of things I would love to share with you but then by Saturday morning I have either forgotten them or I can't put them all in one E-Mail.

So for the past three weeks I have been designing a Blog!

And yesterday I loaded it all up and it went live.

If you fancy a look then it is at The Diet Guy Blog

You will see the last couple of newsletters on there as content but during this week, and over the coming months, I intend to expand the blog considerably and put in a load of new content! I will also be working on some products on the blog to download which I am hoping will help people even more by giving them some tools and techniques which I have found make such a difference.

Before I leave this week I was watching BBC News on Thursday morning when a bariatric surgeon was being interviewed. He was saying that only 2% of people who could benefit from weight loss surgery were getting the operations and that 250 thousand people in the country could get beneficial results from either bypass or band surgery.

He then went on to state that anyone with a BMI of over 40 should be considered for surgery and that statistically if your BMI is over 40 then it was virtually impossible to reduce weight and stay slim.

My BMI at my biggest was 53, I reduced my weight and I now don't diet and I am still slim. Therefore, I really wish people would stop thinking it is impossible to be slim without constantly dieting or resorting to surgery. We, as a society, study disease and what doesn't work. As soon as we start looking at what does work and study wellness then we can make a difference.

So next time you see something, or somebody, that tells you that there is no point in losing weight as you will only put it back on and more, tell them to SHOVE OFF and open their mind to you being a superstar who is not only happy being who they really are but also happen to be slim as well.

Have a great week and cya Saturday

Mike ;-)

P.S. Or before Saturday on the Blog!
Measure And Celebrate!

Along with blogging when I was reducing my weight I also lived on an excel spreadsheet!

At the start of my diet I set myself up a spreadsheet which had loads of details on it such as weight, collar size, waist size, BMI, water drunk, steps taken, obesity classification, fat percentage etc etc.

Then every day when I trimmed down I filled in the spreadsheet with all my details for the day.

Now when I work 1-2-1 with people I always get them to come up with the BIG GOAL that they want at the end but the important thing is to measure and celebrate along the way with every mini goal.

In my spreadsheet I had enough goals set that I literally would complete one every week while on the journey, one week it may be my waist went in by 2 inches, the next week I dropped from being morbidly obese to obese (I remember that was a good one as morbidly sounded dodgy!), and the next week it might be that my fat percentage had dropped below 40%.

And then each time I got a mini goal I would celebrate! Now that didn't mean I went out and had a nice meal, or spent money on something I couldn't afford, I celebrated inside!! I told myself I was doing a good job and got to feel good about myself as I was succeeding!!!!

So going back to last week's newsletter when I said about setting that big goal, once you have that goal then write it down...

Then set a load of mini goals along the way. A mini goal may be something totally different to you than it is to me! One of mine was to be able to go through the turnstyle at Norwich City because they used to have to let me in the door as I got stuck once, but for you it will be something different.

Then when you have your long list of mini goals then start the journey.

Along the way measure all your stats and all your goals and tick everything off, celebrate every single goal BUT never take your eyes off the big prize...

That way you get to feel good in the short term as you are succeeding but you also get the long term prize as well.

Now some people do have the mini goal celebration technique but where they go wrong is that they allow that to actually stop them getting to the big goal. For example, if they have ten stone to lose then when they lose seven stone they celebrate and think they have done so well that they actually stop dieting and don't ever finish what they started.

So as I said BIG FINAL PRIZE! Loads of little tiny MINI goals along the way but always with a view on the bigger picture.

You don't need Excel to do this of course but I found it really useful as I could do little graphs of my weight, BMI etc to remind myself how well I was doing.

And ultimately by doing all the above it creates a plan! It creates a path in your mind of where you are going and I do find some dieters dream of being slim but won't spend an hour doing a plan on a bit of paper or a computer of how they are going to measure and celebrate it.

I hope you have an amazing week and hope you get time to celebrate your own successes as you are a superstar remember!

Cya Saturday

Mike ;-)
