You Don't Get To Choose How You're Going To Die. Or When. But You Can Decide How You're Going To Live Now - Joan Baeziding
What Are We Up To This Week?

I had a great week this week. I was in London on a training course which was good fun, and also working on content for the new blog.

I am still waiting for the design company to finish the front page but it is giving me time to write some content for it, so this week I am rewriting 'The two types of dieter' to really explain the differences and will publish that up there when it is live.

Greetings!

Good Morning!

How are you?

Thanks to everyone who mailed me last week after I asked you

1. Stated in the positive, what's the benefit of being slim?
2. What's the benefit of being big?
3. What's the benefit of NOT being slim?

I had some great responses and thought I would share the observations with you!

In terms of the first question, when I said 'stated in the positive', 60% of people who E-Mailed me did exactly the opposite. They mailed to say 'I want to be slim because I don't want to be fat' or 'The benefit of being slim is that I don't overheat on holiday.'

In terms of the benefit of staying, and being, big, every person who mailed me had put down some benefits of being big! In fact one person, who is a superstar, put down 12 benefits of them staying overweight!

And the final question of whether there was any benefit in NOT being slim, 30% of people came up with answers for that.

My point with this, apart from to share it with you, is that people just assume they want to be slim so they need to find a bit of willpower, find a diet, do it for a while and then they are cured. But it's rubbish! It doesn't work! If your goal is to get slim and then stop dieting and stop obsessing and worrying about food and whether you look good in your clothes etc etc etc and what the scales will say if you have a meal out then I promise you that the answer is not in a diet book, the answer is not on the nutritional label in aisle 4 of Tesco. The answer to all this dieting fluff is not to go and find yet another diet to fail on.

The answer is to come up with a long term plan, that plan should be about being happy being who you really are, whatever that means to you. Then when you have your long term goals, and by goals I mean passions, things that light you up like blackpool when you think about them, things that you would move mountains for....

Then when you know what you want (not what you don't want), then you need a plan!

That plan, in the short term, weight wise will be to pick a diet that fits in with your lifestyle, you do need to do a diet otherwise you won't actually lose weight, but if that diet is merely a stepping stone so you can get to your passion then you'll be raring to go!!

As part of the plan you also need to deal with the rest of your life. If you have a job that you hate and when you get home you eat to cheer up about it, then change your job! If you have a relationship that isn't working then deal with what needs dealing with. I know it may sound tough and hard and difficult and the 'fear factor' comes in but trying to diet in isolation of the rest of your life is not possible. You are one person! Your health, wealth, diet, beliefs, jobs, family, relationships are all linked together like a bowl of spaghetti, therefore, take a holistic view towards dieting.

And as I said to someone on Facebook chat last night, I have never yet worked with a client who has reduced their weight and remained slim that didn't enjoy the experience. Who didn't laugh and giggle and smile the whole way through their diet process, who doesn't embrace at the end of the diet what being slim allows them to do and doesn't continue to grow in their lives and keep that enthusiasm and buzz going.

I also said to that person on Facebook that as soon as you know you'll be slim, and there is no doubt in your head, then you are already there. You just need to follow a diet for bit. If at the start you doubt you'll get there then it's time to look at why you doubt yourself when you are a superstar!

Have a great weekend

Mike ;-)

P.S. Cya Saturday!
Booking A Holiday In The Summer?

Now is the time of year when people look to their holidays for later in the year, so you do a bit of research, decide where you want to go and when you want to go.

Usually you search the internet checking out the tour providers and the resort you want to go to, seeing what the temperature will be and whether their are any local excursions you fancy.

And then you make a decision and book it!

Now i'm sure you enjoy finding your holiday and get excited as you book it as you have something later in the year to look forward to....

So you book your holiday for the summer, and in a couple of months as it starts to get closer you get out to the shops to get your holiday gear, you replace the suitcase, and get some sun tan lotion. You work out it is only 12 weeks before you go and you start counting down the weeks....

Until there is 4 weeks to go...it's this month! You can almost smell the holiday as it is that close and you start telling everyone where you are going and how much you can't wait to get there.

And then it's the end of the week!! You are getting everything packed into that new suitcase, you are getting the last minute things you need and tidying up the house so it looks good when you get back.....

And you cannot wait to hit the airport and get into the sky.....

And then it's the day!! THE DAY YOU ARE GOING ON HOLIDAY!! You are so excited you nearly pop as you get to the airport and go on the holiday you have spent all year enjoying already as you thought about it and planned it and got ready for it.

The enjoyment started back in January when you went and researched it, and then continued through the spring as you started your shopping for it and checked your passport hadn't run out. It then got even more exciting as you started packing and telling everyone and then of course you actually got to go which was the best bit of all.

Now all of that is super positive! And fun....and an experience.

But would it all really be that much fun? Tidying up your house so it's tidy when you get back doesn't sound that much fun! Packing a suitcase isn't actually that much of a life changing experience....wandering around in a cold January getting brochures and getting wet wouldn't be my first choice!

But because it's about something you want in the future, something that really lights you up then whatever steps you have to take, whether they are fun or not so fun doesn't matter and are just part of the experience. But they are never in question....even if you don't want to pack your suitcase you know that without one you aren't going on that magic holiday so you do it with a smile on your face as you want the end result so much.

So turning this to you....

Is this how you treat dieting?

If your goal was to be slim in the summer instead of going on holiday.

Would you research it now? Pick a diet that works for you? But would you have fun looking because you knew the end result was worth it?

Would you then along the way do a bit of exercise, get active, educate yourself about healthy eating, deal with the job you don't like, or sort out other areas of your life, but you would have fun doing it and feel happy because you knew the end result was worth it?

And of course the closer you get to being slim, like the closer you get to going on holiday, the more excited you are, in fact you want it more the day before you finish the diet than at any other point.

But 99% of dieters don't do this....

They have to pick a bloody diet, because they overate last year....they have to hang on that diet and hope that maybe it might help them a bit lose a bit of weight.....

Because they don't want to do it they procrastinate and put it off, restart the next day or week because that means they get to feel a little better right now.

They are dieting because they don't want something, it is hard to get excited about your holiday last year!! So looking back and trying to get motivated by not dying, or trying to get moving on the basis you don't like yourself is going to be a tough ask.

So please for this Saturday morning have a little think....what is your target in the future? What do you want to do this year that being slimmer or slim would allow you to do? What do you want to do with the rest of your life that being slimmer or slim would allow you to do?

Have an amazing week

Mike ;-)
