| What Are We Up To This Week? |
|
This week I am starting my walking challenge which is one of my targets for 2010. I am going to walk 3.65 million steps this year. This will build up my leg muscles for a challenge of a lifetime I have planned in 2011. So I have my pedometer in my pocket and will let you know how I get on during the year. I have a very sedentary job and therefore currently do around 2000 steps per day. But I happen to work on the beach and therefore iPod in pocket I shall be taking some lunchtime strolls to really up my step rate and therefore get some good fitness results.
I was also hoping to have one of my new projects ready to show you this week but the design company had a break over Christmas and aren't back until the 6th January to finish it off.
Anyway when I was reducing down my weight I did a daily diary 'blog' on the Internet about how I was feeling and how I was doing, and I used to really enjoy doing it.
I enjoy doing these newsletter but a lot of the time it is a Tuesday or Wednesday and I think of something I want to write but by Saturday I have forgotten it, therefore I have commissioned a new Blog which will be going live as soon as they finish the logo on it!
If it is ready for next week then I will let everyone know, really excited about it and just want to get blogging!
On the bowling front my ankle is hopefully now strong enough and this Thursday I will be bowling back in the league, I am sure my teammates will be mortified as they are currently third...

Greetings!
Good Morning!
How are you?
I hope you had a fantastic Christmas and a great New Year and are raring to go to make 2010 the year that really made a difference to your life.
I can always remember, when I was big, eating everything that moved over Christmas on the promise of a diet in early January to sort out the damage. I would basically give myself licence to eat by dealing with the problem later. I would go out and buy the latest diet book, the fitness DVD and a new piece of exercise equipment, but of course when it got to January I didn't want to have to serve the sentence!
And that is the problem for most people, it is easier to plan for a diet, to talk about it, to put it off, to start it tomorrow than it is to just do it. Being on a diet because you have overeaten in the past for most people isn't fun, and therefore if it isn't fun you aren't that likely to do it for very long.
This week's newsletter is about resolutions and, ultimately, motivations. My challenge to you this year is to be one of the 'six percenters' who decide on January 1st to do something and have completed it by December 31st 2010.
Before I leave this week I had a great E-Mail from someone on Boxing Day with a quote that said 'the true meaning of insanity is doing the same things again and again and expecting a different result.' I have received this quote a few times and it is true. If you do what you have always done you will get what you have always got. So, if for the past ten years you have dieted and not got slim and stayed there, then you need to change your strategy and what you are doing.
So, 2010! A clean page to be written, the pen is in your hand, what exactly do you want to write on the page? What are you really going to do this year that makes a difference?
I will talk to you next Saturday and hope you have a great first week of the decade!

Resolutions & Willpower
|
I was watching television yesterday and there were literally back to back adverts for quitting smoking or diets. And on each of the adverts they had on the bottom 'WILLPOWER REQUIRED'.
The new NHS smoking kit advert tells us just how hard it is to stop smoking.
And the new advert for a large diet company actually starts with 'Losing Weight Is Hard'.
But what if it wasn't? What if you decided that reducing down your weight was actually going to be good fun?
They say that only six percent of New Year's Resolutions actually happen but I would be fascinated to know how many positive new year's resolutions happen and how many negative resolutions happen.
Because if you can come up with a resolution that is a positive then I am sure that you are more likely to get a result. So, have you got a positive reason to be slim?
There are two kinds of dieter from all the people I meet, the majority by far have the prison sentence mentality. They have got to do it, they need to do it, they don't want to do it but they have put weight on and therefore now have to use willpower & resolve to get the weight off, sound familiar?
They need willpower as they have a conflict, part of them wants to be slim but part of them wants to eat, and therefore let battle commence. The battle is in their head as they pull themselves to bits for having allowed themselves to get big in the first place and also not being able to do something about it. Are you focussing on the damage done or where you want to get to?
Ultimately, that battle is destined to fail. If you have tried dieting on the back of what you don't want (I don't want to be fat etc) then it doesn't work! What do you want instead?
The second kind of dieter, and a rarer breed, is the choice dieter. The person who knows they can eat whatever they want, whenever they want but as there is no conflict they are more than happy to just cut the calories for a while as they enjoy the trip to a slimmer figure. When I meet dieters I can tell the difference before they even speak, as the choice dieter is smiling, buzzing, jumpy and has their shoulder by their ears, the prison sentence mentality dieter looks depressed and sour with their shoulders alongside their hips, try both of them now! see which makes you feel the more positive!
The secret with all this dieting malarky is that there really is no secret! To get slim, just put a huge smile on your face, realise you can choose your own path and because it is a choice you don't need resolve or willpower.
I knew I would get slim the day I started my final diet! It was never in doubt as I could see nothing but positives whereas the old prison sentence Mike could tell you nothing but how hard it was, how I was big boned and destined to be big forever. But it's all fluff! 2010 can be the year you trim down, give up dieting and just be happy, you have to believe it though. So, do you believe?
Lots of questions this week and maybe something you want to go and dwell on, what are you really going to do that makes a difference and are you prepared to do it?
I truly wish you a phenomenal new year and I shall cya Saturday
Mike ;-)
