What Are We Up To This Week?

Well this week has been great! Work is great, home is great, christmas spirit is great and generally life is great!

Next week I have some good stuff to be getting on with, I have decided in the new year to develop some new diet mindsetideas of mine which I am now working through with someone so exciting times ahead!

Apart from that a bit more Christmas shopping, and loads of cards to write!

Greetings!

Good Morning!

Christmas is coming at a pace and I hope you have planned a nice festive weekend! I was lucky enough to be walking round a little village last night that was lit up with some lovely white Christmas lights and it is such a nice time of year to be with friends and family! (as long as you have a good scarf and coat, obviously!).

I was on the internet this week buying some presents for the kids for the big day and I was choosing some family board games for us to play during the day, then I went out for dinner last night with my Mum who asked me what we were doing for food on Boxing Day. It suddenly occured to me I hadn't got a clue. I haven't made a Christmas pudding or ordered a turkey or really even let it cross my mind. That, for me, showed the big difference between the old me and me now!

For me, when I was big, Christmas was all about the food! As soon as December hit I was on the nuts, dates and chocolates and would be buying food for weeks in advance and then planning meticously to have a feast on the big day!

Now don't get me wrong, having a nice festive lunch is on my list of things to do but it isn't going to make or break my Christmas! The games I have bought for the kids are much more important as it will be sharing the experience with them that really means the most and not whether I have anymore liqeur chocolates left.

I was listening to the radio this week and they were saying that the average weight gain over Xmas is 3 pounds and then 10 percent of the population put on 7 pounds etc etc etc blah blah blah...but only if you choose to! If you want to eat loads over Christmas then do it but don't be surprised when the scales move. But remember, you are always in control of what you eat and therefore make the choices you want to make that make you happy, as that is the ultimate. Be big and happy, be slim and happy but please be happy ;-)

Before I leave this week I had a bit of a revelation during the week when I realised something about myself and the way I now treat food which is why the article is about a muffin I had in Starbucks! Now if you know me you know I am a Starbucks fan but more for the experience of relaxing with Jo and the kids in there and not the blueberry swirl cheesecake :-)

Anyway have a fantastic week! I shall talk to you next Saturday

Mike ;-)
Skinny Blueberry Muffin

I was standing in Starbucks with a friend this week and I ordered a skinny blueberry muffin. When we sat down he asked me did I watch what I ate still and didn't I fancy the full fat blueberry muffin?

As he said it my inner voice said 'Why would I?'

And it was such a revelation to me!

In other words my logic now is 'I don't care whether I have a skinny muffin or a full fat muffin so why would I choose the full fat one?'

If I was to rate how much I wanted them both out of 10, then they would both score the same...

Therefore I am not hard done by by choosing the lower calorie option as it is the same to me.

If, for example, I was choosing between a vegetarian panini and a steak and cheese panini then I would want the steak one more and hence I would have it!

And it is a logic that works for me so well now and I didn't even realise that I did it!

I have thought about it during the week and I do it in loads of areas of food now. I drink black coffee and have done for 5 years. I like white coffee and black coffee the same and so why would I choose white coffee?

I like Helllmans mayonnaise both in full fat, light and extra light the same! Therefore why would I choose the full fat one?

But I don't like Heinz reduced sugar baken beans as much as normal Heinz beans so I have normal ones...

My point here is if you feel that you are not having things that you really want then you feel bad and end up resenting the diet or lifestyle you are following. Eating broccolli when you want chips doesn't tend to lead to much enthusiasm and smiling.

I have chatted this over with a couple of friends who are big and looked back on when I was big. Back then I would rarely choose the healthier options as I used to equate healthy with being a lesser product i.e. the healthy version won't be as nice, tasty, big etc.

So turning this to you? When you choose healthy options is it because you don't care which you have? or do you feel hard done by? Do you choose healthy options so you can eat more? Or do you choose them because you value your long term health?

As you stand in front of the counter in Tesco and make your food choices what are you really basing them on?

I would be really interested if you wanted to mail me and let me know! All feedback appreciated as I think I may be on to something here :-)

Have a great week

Mike ;-)
