What Are We Up To This Week?

I am pleased to say that I won the national weight maintenance award in Birmingham last night. It recognised 4 years of being slim and not dieting anymore and I was really pleased.

Part of the prize is for Jo and I to go to Malta for a week on holiday so this week we shall mostly be checking out Malta as I have never been and know nothing about it!

I am also this week hoping to get a few days of P&Q to do some podcast recording to cover the Christmas period.

Greetings!

Good Late Sunday Evening!

I hope you have had a great weekend and are looking forward to the start of a good week as we slip into December!

The newsletter is delayed this weekend as I was away at an awards ceremony and wanted to wait to see what it inspired me to then write about in the newsletter.

And what inspired me most was all the people there who had achieved some amazing, amazing results through all sorts of issues in their lives. In the final category for the slimmer of the year the contestants had lost over 750 stone between them! What a seriously astonishing amount of weight...

Anyway, this week's short article is called Believe because it is the one common thing that all successful maintainers have in common...they decided to...

Before I leave this week I was chatting to someone in the early hours of this morning who was telling me how unhappy they were in their job but they needed to keep it because they had a great pension scheme and if they left they wouldn't get such a good deal.

After five minutes I asked if they really were going to work for another 18 years with low grade misery in their life just so they could get a bit more money when they were 65...they agreed that maybe logically it wasn't the best of plans but the fear of losing the pension was blinding all their options and stopping them coming up with a plan.

I personally worked in a place for 15 years and stayed because of the money I got. I didn't enjoy the job for the last 5 years but I continued to stay so that I could get paid at the end of the month and buy myself things to cheer me up because I was so unhappy in my job!

It was talking to a reader of this newsletter when I said 'If you aren't happy with something in your life then change it...' that I thought 'stop talking it and not walking it Mike' and I resigned the next day. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made as I now do a job I enjoy and don't now need to blow money on payday to cheer myself up!

So is there anything in your life that you aren't happy with? And what are the real reasons you don't change them?

I hope you have the most amazing of weeks and I will see you on Saturday!

Mike ;-)
Believe

I am going to ask you a straight question first.

Do you believe you can, and will, be slim for the rest of your life without dieting again?

And I mean really believe, believe to the point of not doubting yourself, not screwing up your face or thinking it would be nice but isn't going to happen.

I met some amazing people yesterday. There was a girl who had decided to reduce weight while her brother was in Afghanistan to surprise him on his return from tour three months later. She was half way through her weight loss when she heard he had been killed.

She not only got to goal weight but she is now doing marathons in honour of her brother and to raise money in his memory.

I met a guy who had been housebound for ten years and weighed 28 stone who one day believed he could be slim and walk out of the door.

I met an ex drug user and alchoholic who believed he could stop both and then went on to reduce his weight back down to a normal level.

These are just normal people, and yet, extraordinary people. Because the reality is that we can all be so much more than we currently are. We all have baggage in our lives, we are all works in progress and none of us sit on our ivory towers and profess to know everything and are buddha's in the world.

These people decided to believe in themselves and what they could do if they set their minds to it. And that is the key, once you believe you can be slim, and I mean truly believe, to the point it makes you smile as you are just so sure you can, then the job is done even before it is started and nothing will stand in your way.

If one person can get slim and just be slim then everyone can. Remember that being overweight isn't a disease, there isn't a cure for this, being overweight just means you ate too much! Therefore, you can choose to believe you can change for the better and be slim.

I believed I couldn't ever lose weight and for 20 years I proved myself right, 4 years ago I chose to change my mind and believe I could be slim and I did it.

Therefore, do you really believe?
