Big Question Of The Week

What Labels Do You Choose To Accept?
Quote Of The Week

Let Nothing And Nobody Stand In Your Way Of Being Who You Really Are - Mike Scott
What Are We Up To This Week?

I have been doing huge hours at work this week as we have a big computer virus problem ...therefore my life is currently on hold while I battle against it.

As soon as I have it sorted and cleared I will then be getting on with my life :-)

I am pleased to say I am now down to one crutch and my ankle is getting stronger everyday and I expect to be wandering around unaided by Tuesday next week...

Greetings!

How are you?

Just a thought, but who are you really?

Are you a mother, daughter, son, or father?

Are you a nurse, plumber, secretary or shop worker?

Are you a dieter, maintainer, ex-dieter, counsellor?

Are you a smoker, gambler, shopaholic, drinker or over eater?

Are you male or female?

Are you a Norwich City Fan or do you support some other football team...

My point is that people accept labels very easily and then tend to live to the expectation of that label.

I think the label of male works well for me, and I will even accept Norwich City fan, but some of the old labels I used to call myself such as failure, useless, fat, chunky, chubby and big Mike did very little for my self-esteem and by constantly putting myself down to others, excusing my weight by calling myself big boned and generally focussing on just how useless I was at weight management, I didn't get anywhere fast!

The reason I mention it is that this week I was chatting with a consultant who was quick to tell me all the negative things about himself and it reminded me of me. He told me he was fat (which he actually wasn't) and that he gambled too much...

Now when he said he was fat I asked 'Is that all you are?'

Of course, he said no, the conversation opened up and we moved it on until we agreed that he was great at his job and that I needed him to help me fix some problems and we got on and did it.

So before I leave this week I am going to ask you to be very aware this weekend of what labels you choose to accept, what labels you let others give to you and also what labels you call yourself...

Everytime you give yourself a negative label, then just think to yourself 'Is that all I am?' and then see if you can rephrase it to a positive.

Because you can change a label in the blink of a decision...I can become an Ipswich fan tonight if I want to...but the key is I choose not to as I now like the labels I have for myself and I know which ones I accept when other people call me them.

Have an amazing week and cya Saturday...

Mike :-)

P.S. You are fantastic! (hope you accept that one!)
Do It For You!

I talk to loads of people who have reduced their weight and maintain long term as ultimately, for me, it is all about getting slim and doing something more fun than dieting!

There are two things I always notice with people who have done really well and effortlessly maintain their weight.

Firstly, they enjoyed the diet! They enjoyed the trip to slimdom and when they got slim they enjoy being slim for all the benefits it gives them.

The second thing I notice is that always they did it for themselves!

What I mean by that is that they didn't do it for their kids or their partner, they didn't do it because their doctor told them, they didn't do it for a sponsorship, they didn't do it for someone else's wedding or because their best friend persuaded them to diet.

They did it for themself! And they did it on their own terms and let nothing and nobody stand in their way of having what they really wanted.

Now, it isn't selfish to want something for yourself! Because ultimately by you being slim and healthy you will more than likely live longer and hence your husband, kids and friends (and even your doctor!) get to see you, love you and appreciate you longer.

When I see people they will invariably say they are losing weight for someone else! It does seems a strange thing to say but I promise you it is very common.

So turning this to you...

Who are you dieting for? In fact, what are you dieting for?

Are you dieting for you? Are you dieting to live to 100 years?

Who are you going to prove something to? What benefit is there in really dieting now and getting slim and never going near a diet again?

What will being slim really give you that you haven't got now?

I learnt the hard way that being slim doesn't mean you are happy, it doesn't help you through a crap day at work and being slim doesn't help the 'baggage' of the past. Therefore who are you dieting for?

Now you may very well have answered 'I am dieting for me!!'

Which is great...

But again what will it give you?

For me living to 100 is not something I want to do! And when I was big I never really thought about why I really wanted to be slim...now sure it might be fun for a while to wear smaller clothes and you look better in the mirror but is that really what life is about?

Or is it about being happy being who you really are? And therefore forget the diet totally, forget your weight, forget everything about food just for a split second...

Are you happy being who you really are? And who are you living your life for?

I hope the answer is YES and FOR YOU....

And then all the people you love, adore and cherish will get to see you being the person they really love, adore and cherish and not an imitation....

Be yourself! And do it for yourself...

Have a great week

Mike ;-)

P.S. You are still fantastic (accepted it yet?)
