What Are You Going To Do To Enjoy Your Day Today ?

What Are We Up To This Week?

This week I have been working on a new website, this is a better looking version of the current site. It will also have the ability to blog which I found so useful when I was getting slim.

I have also been doing interviews with various magazines and newspapers talking about whether dieting works, hence the article this week!

Issue: # 61 September 19th 2009

Greetings!

What are you going to do to enjoy your day today?

Have you thought about it yet?

I know it is early but life is very much about the good moments and sometimes it is good to just get off the rollercoaster for ten seconds and think are you actually enjoying your life and your day...

Now I know today I have to tidy up the back garden as we are having a conservatory built and it looks awful and to be honest I don't want to do it! But the old me would have put it off until late tomorrow, I would have moaned and thought about it all weekend and then eventually got on with it. But I don't do procrastination anymore as by putting things off you don't want to do you have to think about them all the time!

So I am up early this morning, getting this newsletter written and then I am going to get the garden done before 10am so I can take Ethan to his football game, therefore instead of standing at the football ground thinking I need to tidy up the garden I can enjoy the day and relax with my favourite little man!

You will get this mail around 8:30am this morning so is there anything you have been putting off that you can get done this morning to allow yourself to have some fun later on? You only have to do something you don't want to do once, but by putting it off you have to think about doing it hundreds of times!

This week's article is related to one of the questions I get asked the most, whether I think diets work. It's an emotive subject and a lot of people make money on the back of saying it does work and a lot of people now make money on the back of saying that it doesn't! So I am going to go on and offer my opinion, having been a professional dieter and now not dieting anymore.

Before I leave this week I just want to talk about hobbies! This links in perfectly with whether diets work...I was on facebook this week and was looking through someone's profile (I wasn't stalking them!) and I noticed that one of their hobbies was 'dieting'...it really made me think that if you class dieting as a hobby and a lifestyle then you are actually getting some benefit and enjoyment out of being part of the dieting club, it then hit me that I used to enjoy going to my slimming club! Not because of the diet itself but because of the people I got to meet and have a giggle with, therefore it was in my interest to fail so I could continue to be part of that group.

I hope you have an amazing week and enjoy your day!

Do Diets Work ?

My answer is

'Yes, as a tool. No, as a lifestyle choice'

If you are overweight then you have to do a diet. Even if it isn't a formal diet and is just cutting down calorie intake and eating healthily. If you want to reduce weight then you need to do a diet.

Therefore, people can't say don't diet, if you don't diet and eat less calories than your body size requires, then you won't reduce weight!

So doing a diet as a tool to reduce weight works really well and there are loads of diets on the market that allow you to do that.

The problem comes when you choose dieting as a lifestyle choice. By that, I mean you do a diet to lose weight, go back to your old eating habits and then put some weight back on while planning your next diet. Even when you are slim you are either dieting, or not dieting, but it is always about the diet.

Now we all know that the statistics are not good, they quote 98% of people regain all their weight and more within a couple of years. Therefore as a lifestyle choice most people won't be slim for very long.

There are more diets, more exercise equipment, more fitness DVD's, more gym equipment, more Nintendo Wii exercise games, more food labelling than ever before and yet there are more overweight people than ever before and so it just doesn't add up! If diets were a lifestyle solution for the world then the amount of overweight people would be going down.

So for me the solution is this...

1. Deal with WHY you overeat...

2. Do a diet, pick a safe one, pick one that fits in with your life, and that you enjoy!
3. Get slim

4. Don't diet again as you won't need to....

Now it sounds simple but we all focus on the diet being the solution to why we overate in the first place, and it never can be.

Diets will solve the problem of having too much fat in our bodies but it won't solve a stressful day, it won't solve self-esteem issues, it won't solve an unhappy home life, it won't solve the emotional reasons why we use food as a sticky plaster.

When I used to diet as a lifestyle I lived the yo-yo life. I used to diet all the time. I would start on a Monday and fail by the Wednesday or Thursday. I would then be planning to start the next Monday while overeating the weekend because it was ok as I was doing a diet next week.

It was when I thought how constantly dieting was actually a very tiring way of living life, waking up in the morning and thinking about food is not much fun and hence, I changed my goals. I decided to do my LAST ever diet. I classed it as a one way journey, a quick trip to Slimdom but when I got there I wasn't going to use food anymore to cheer up.

So I used a diet as a tool for the first time, the magic was never in the diet, the magic was in me...and I say that to everyone, you have all the tools and skills you need to be slim long term, you just have to look inside and not in some glossy slimming magazine!

If you need to tidy up your garden then go and get a tool to do it but once it is clean and tidy then go and do something more fun...if you need to get slim then go and get a tool to do it but once you are slim then go and do something more fun...

Have a great weekend!

NLP Workbook
NLP

I get a lot of people ask me how they start to work out why they do what they do and how they can move on with their lives.

This unfortunately named book is the best workbook I have yet to find, if you spend a few relaxing evenings with this book, a pen and some peace and quiet then you can really start to realise what is going on.

Don't buy this book to read it though, buy this book to use it and fill it in cover to cover and in my opinion you cannot help but move on with your life.

You can get this book from Amazon at
