All Or Nothing

Most people who are overweight can definitely do the 'all' approach to eating. They can eat what they want, when they want and hence, they put on weight.
Then they reach a certain size when they have had enough, and it is important enough to them to get away from being that big person and they don't want to be fat anymore.
And so, they dive on a diet and flick the switch to nothing. That may mean literally no food, or just not certain food types i.e. no chocolate, or no/low carb.
They then start to lose weight, but then they reach a certain weight where they want to eat 'normally' again and then they flick the switch back to all and therefore put weight on.
And that is the yo-yo effect that many of us, including me for 20 years, seem to get into the trap of.
I worked with a lady a couple of years ago who was on a very strict diet and had reduced her weight by six stone and I remember clearly her saying that she couldn't wait to finish dieting so she could have a curry!
Now that is fine, and I have curry, but if your goal when on a diet is to eat lots when you finish the diet then you are not going to be slim for very long...
We all have heard of moderation, which was always an alien concept for me. If I opened a packet of biscuits or a jar of olives then I had to have all of them. If they were sealed and closed then I could resist and have none of them but the key to being slim is to find moderation.
So what is the secret? The secret is that there is no secret...food is a totally inanimate object, it will never jump in your mouth however much you might think it wants to, but I promise it doesn't!
Therefore, when you have a large portion in front of you then you are in total control and can choose to have some of it, none of it or all of it.
But you are always in control and are choosing to have it!
I had a lady once tell me that she couldn't help herself if she opened packets of food and had to eat the lot. This was back to 'cause and effect' mentality where she was saying it wasn't her fault she was eating it all as there was nothing she could do.
This isn't about blame or whose fault, but the reality is that everything you eat is a choice by you! Everything...
Moderation is a choice that you can make. The key thing to understand when you do eat too much is WHY you ate too much and why did you choose to?
Have a great week and let me know if the podcast works!
Thanks
Mike ;-)
