What Specifically Do You Want With Your Weight?
Quote Of The Week

People Who Enjoy What They Are Doing Invariably Do It Well - Joe Gibbs
What Are We Up To This Week?

I am spending this week releasing my first ever Podcast! I have recorded it and am trying to get it on iTunes which is much more difficult than I imagined! Hopefully, it will be there by next Saturday's E-Mail. This is a podcast talking about the mindset of dieting for those people who prefer listening to reading!

The first podcast is talking through the questions and why answering them is key to creating success.

Apart from that I am working 1-2-1 with clients this work and also building a 2nd bird table after the first one was such as success with the seagulls of Great Yarmouth!
Issue: # 53 July 25th 2009

Greetings!

Good Morning!!

How are you? How are you feeling?

Two questions and I haven't even started the newsletter yet :-)

So how many of you actually answered the questions last week? I know hundreds of people looked at the questions as my hosting account moaned at me for hitting my limit!, but how many of you actually answered the questions?

I had a mail from someone who had been through every question and answered them all in real detail. They said they realised that actually they didn't want to be slim, they were actually really happy where they were! Therefore my reply was to go and do something more fun then and stop beating yourself up for not doing something you didn't want to do in the first place!

This week's article is around the first question from last week which was

'What Specifically Do You Want With Your Weight? (Not What You Don't Want)'

It is such an important question, from a goal point of view but also, the answer in a 1-2-1 situation will give a fantastic indicator as to whether the dieter will be successful or not.

If you didn't get last week's newsletter, or now feel the time is right to read through the questions and start planning your success, then they are available at

Before I leave, I got a fantastic E-Mail this week from someone who subscribed to the very first newsletter way back last year. They mailed to say they had reduced their weight by 10 stone so far in that time by just eating more healthily and getting active. They said that they had focussed on going on holiday in November this year to Egypt and how amazing it would be to be slim and be able to see all the pyramids and the culture of the country.

And the answer to their question on what specifically they wanted with their weight was...

"I want to be slim so that it will enable me to explore a fascinating country and enjoy seeing all the amazing sights I have only ever read about. It will then be the start of my world tour!"

Now that answer is full of positivity and has success written all over it, therefore, she will be slim by November!

So is your prize there? Have you got the goal that makes you bounce out of bed in the morning with the attitude that will let nothing and nobody stand in your way of being slim, including yourself?

Have an amazing week and cya Saturday

Mike ;-)
What Specifically Do You Want With Your Weight?

What specifically do you want with your weight? (not what you don't want)

Now if you look at this question then there are three keys elements which should explain why it is important.

The first thing is the word 'specifically', this means, be exact!

So don't say 'I want to be slim'

Because slim isn't measurable! It is subjective....you might argue that I am tall because I am six foot but actually compared to a block of flats I am actually pretty short! Therefore slim in itself is no measure and therefore a very wooly target.

So specifically would be an answer like 'I want to be a size 10' or 'I want to weight 10 stone 3 pounds'

Now the key thing here is to have that target very much so that it makes you smile your face off, when you think of that target it should fill you with enthusiasm and an urge to have it right now.

The 2nd key thing is what you 'want'

Now you might NEED to lose weight but actually as a motivator although NEED is very strong it usually isn't much fun! If you NEED to pay your mortgage, or NEED to put the washing on, or NEED to go to work then you don't tend to do it with a smile on your face.

But if you WANT something and I mean really WANT it then usually it brings out positive emotion in you and becomes enjoyable. I WANT to go and see my favourite music band, I WANT to go out with the kids to the cinema etc etc.

Therefore WANTING to be slim and healthy is actually better than NEEDING to be slim and healthy as the motivation is towards what you WANT and not NEEDING to get away from something.

The final key is the 'Not what you don't want'

A lot of people with their weight are great at telling you what they don't want. I have said before that I had a lady say to me 'I don't want to die..' and I replied 'OK that's what you don't want but what do you want?' and she replied that she didn't know...

Therefore she had no goal! No plan and no idea of actually why she really WANTED to be slim. She knew she NEEDED to because of her health but it had never worked, when she started to think about what she WANTED then it become much clearer.

I had loads of people mail me during the week answering the questions and most people, 85% to be precise!, had the answer 'I don't want to be fat, I don't want to die, I don't want to get ill, I don't want to look awful anymore'

Only 15% of people had a positive answer and even some of them would finish the sentence by putting themselves down!

So can you answer this question with a positive answer?

If you want to mail me your answer for a score out of 100 for positivity then my mail is [email protected]

Have an amazing week!

Mike ;-)
