Also my Mum is joining me in a 2 person bowling team in the summer. We still need a name so any goods ideas mail me! The bowling alley didn't like my idea as they said it was too rude so any ideas let me know!

Newsletter
Greetings!

Good Evening!

I hope you had a great weekend and are looking forward to a busy and productive week.

I received some E-Mails during the day yesterday from people asking me where the newsletter was as it didn't go out at it's usual time of early Saturday morning.

The reason was very deliberate and was to prove a few things really.

The first reason, which is this week's article, is around how easy it is to actually change something. The fact that all I did was schedule this newsletter for some 36 hours later than usual meant that the outcome was different.

The second reason was to show you how your emotional state can change over time. For a lot of people they will be happy on a Saturday morning when they usually get this as they have the whole weekend to look forward to, but then for the same people they may be less happy on a Sunday evening as they face the week ahead. It also, for a lot of people, the eve of starting yet another diet on a Monday morning.

Therefore, planning to be strong this week on your diet is all very well and good but the reality is you won't feel the same on Wednesday as you do tonight, hence trying to be strong before you start a diet is ultimately flawed. If you plan to be strong and hang in there on a diet then you tend to do that when you aren't feeling stressed, lonely, tired or bored, and so when you do feel those emotions, your willpower can be tested. So my main advice when starting a diet is to do it with a smile on your face and laugh your way to slimdom. I always say it and always will that I have never met a long term maintainer who didn't see doing a diet as a hugely positive experience in their life.

The third reason for sending it tonight was to show you that it is easy to break a habit, all a habit is is a repeated behaviour, but it does allow people to justify why they do what they do. When I was big I used to say that when I opened the fridge it was just a habit to eat something out of it, but the reality is that everytime I opened the fridge I was choosing to eat something. So I broke a habit this week by sending this on a different day. Why not "break" a habit of yours by just choosing not to do it anymore.

The final reason I sent the newsletter out tonight was to simply encourage you to think differently. Ultimately that is why I type this newsletter each week, when you realise you don't have to do the same thing everytime and get the same result then you can just do something different. I spent 20 years continuously dieting and not getting any slimmer and eventually I realised that just doing a diet doesn't work, you need to actually think differently and then the result can be so much more positive and long lasting.

Before I leave this week I want to ask you one question,

"What is the one thing you can do this week that will have the most positive effect on your life?

That may be diet related or it might not be. It might be to do that job you have been putting off or dealing with something that needs dealing with, whatever it is, just imagine how good you will feel once you've done it!

And just to show you how easy it is to change, if you are planning on starting a diet and getting slim then why not start it on Sunday Night instead of Monday morning, the result could be so much better.

I hope as always you have an amazing week and cya Saturday (promise!)

How Easy Is It To Change?

The answer is of course very easy!

It is actually very easy to change something, think of all the things this year you have changed, from the basics of your clothes right up to bigger life decisions. People change things all the time and a lot of the time they don't even realise they are doing it.

For a lot of dieters they tend to get stuck in a behaviour. They then go and try and use a diet to change things when actually all it changes is what you eat and not why you eat. So for me, when working with people 1-2-1 it is about what is stopping them changing.

Because deciding to be slim is a very quick decision, and in most cases, people are very happy to do that, it then becomes about the fear of changing. So for example, I was working with someone before Christmas who wanted to be slim but she had the "What if..." problem.

She not only wanted to be slim but also wanted to go out with her friends, so "What if?" she didn't go out with them, and then "What if?" she got slim and people treated her differently, and "What if?" she put the weight back on and everyone talked about her.

Therefore the decision to change is suddenly a lot cloudier than it was before and people get stuck.

For me I truly believe that nobody wants to be overweight, there may be advantages to them in terms of being invisible, or in my case tougher, but I believe that nobody is broken and that ultimately we all want to be happy in life and for that being healthy is needed. I am always listening for people's "What If?"

Turning this to you! You know exactly how to get slim, and stay slim, nowadays we have more food labelling and nutritional advice than we have ever had before. You know the average lady needs around 1800 to 2000 calories a day, and the average guy around 2300 to 2500. We all know we should eat five a day and that too much salt is not a good thing but that isn't the real problem is it? The problem is that we have all used and continue to use food as a sticky plaster for other issues in our lives, so until you get rid of the "What If?" and just realise that food doesn't truly help you emotionally then you won't change.

But if you decide tonight like I did three years ago that you can change by just deciding to do something different and then smile and laugh as you are going to be slim then you will be amazed at the results.

The reason I am sure about this is that at my biggest I weighed over 27 stone and I was THE worst dieter in the world and I decided to change and did it, therefore I believe if one person can reduce their weight and then stop dieting and go and do something more fun then the whole world can do it. I think we spend too much time concentrating on the problem of obesity as opposed to looking at people who are slim and concentrating on their success!

I hope you have an amazing week as always and if you don't believe me that change is easy then set your alarm clock for an hour earlier tomorrow and see how different it feels when you get up and busy.

Til Saturday

Mike :-)
