It's Not What You Eat, It's Why You Eat That Really Matters - Mike Scott
What Are We Up To This Week?

Another busy week although have some relaxing time planned for this weekend!

We have a workshop in two weeks, this is a 1 day workshop where we cover the mindset of dieting and dieters. We talk around what approaches to dieting guarantee failure and which one creates success. If you fancy coming along then click here for more information.

We also have a weight management course running on the 7th/8th may in Chesham. This is the last one for a while as Steve and I are busy with the book and our new projects so if you fancy becoming a certified weight management coach and becoming part of our team of coaches then more info here

Apart from that I am busy working 1-2-1 with clients and working on Claire's story !

Greetings!

Happy Easter!

I hope you had a nice Good Friday and are looking forward to spending some of Easter with friends & family and relaxing and enjoying life.

I had a brilliant conversation with someone this week who thinks that a diet is the answer to everyone's weight problems. He believes that doing just a calorie controlled diet can get people slim and keep them slim, and therefore, the mindset work I work on is of little value.

My answer to him was that we have more diets in the world now than we have ever had before. There are literally hundreds and thousands of different diet plans, diet books and exercise plans so why are there more people obese now than ever before?

If diets worked by themselves and somehow once you did one you were 'cured' and would just be slim, then why do so many people regain their weight? He was himself overweight as well, when I mentioned it he said it was because he was too busy to diet and when he did, he wouldn't need any motivation.

I dieted for 20 years and got bigger and bigger after each one until I changed the way I thought which unlocked everything. Can you think yourself slim? ABSOLUTELY!

Diets are fantastic! They work as a tool to get you slim but by themselves they deal with just the physical side of it. I guarantee that most overweight people are big because of psychological hunger which can't be helped by just a diet.

Everyone talks about lifestyle change and how they are needed but then we all focus on the food as being the issue. The reality is if you didn't eat to help boredom, give comfort, relieve stress, mask anger, hide guilt and all the other reasons we use food as sticky plasters, you would just be slim as you would just eat the calories you needed.

Therefore, my advice for this week is instead of focussing on doing a diet, not doing a diet, what you can eat, what you can't eat etc, take a step above that and think "What do I really want to do in my life that will make me truly happy?"

Once you have the answer to that then go and use any diet you choose to get you slim!

Have a fantastic weekend and cya next weekend.

Beat Me Up Scotty

Beating Yourself Up Does Nothing (Or Getting Me To Do It For You)

One of the most common things I see when working with people 1-2-1 is that they want me to tell them off! I had someone this morning phone and say would I be tough with her, and scare her into losing weight. She wanted to be worried that I would moan at her if she didn't!

Beating yourself up, or getting someone else to do it, to be frank, doesn't work! If you beat yourself up, or get someone else to tell you off then you are going to make yourself feel bad. Most overweight people have a tendency to eat when they feel bad. Therefore, by beating yourself up for being big you then eat more and so, get bigger. Therefore you create a vicious circle of

BIG
BEAT YOURSELF UP
FEEL BAD AFTER BEATING YOURSELF UP
EAT TO NOT FEEL BAD
GET BIGGER
BEAT YOURSELF UP
FEEL EVEN WORSE
EAT MORE TO NOT FEEL BAD
GET EVEN BIGGER

Therefore, as Steve says, be nice to yourself! If you start being nice to yourself and looking for the good stuff then you will start to feel nice feelings which then don't lead to you overeating.

When was the last time you paid yourself a compliment? Or when was the last time someone gave you a compliment and you accepted it?

The thing you have to remember is that you aren't broken! You aren't destined to be overweight forever, you aren't a bad person, you aren't a pig, greedy, or a failure. All you have done in the past is eaten too many calories for your body's needs. And that's it.....

And remember that part of you, the real you!, wants to be slim and healthy and happy...if it didn't then why would you be reading this? If you were a total failure then you wouldn't be wanting to make a difference.

I was chatting with someone on Facebook yesterday who said could they come and see me as they were a total failure...I said how can you have failed if you are coming to see me, you are still on the journey and still in the game?

You can change your life today! You can decide today to be slim and then diet to get to your ideal weight, then just eat the amount of calories your body needs and you will be set....Now it sounds so simple, the reality is that it is simple, but if you are going to beat yourself up and see yourself as broken then you won't do it.

So let's look at you....you are great! At your core you are a nice person who wants to be healthy and happy and really do some great things with your life. OK, you may have some behaviours that aren't working for you such as eating a bit too much in the past, but start looking in the mirror and realising that the true magic is inside you...You just have to realise you can be, and do, so much more than maybe you currently believe.

Why not make April 11th 2009 the day you decided to be slim?

Have an amazing easter and talk next Saturday

Mike :-)

The Overload Solution
OverHow To Juggle Life

This is a great book if like me you are trying to keep 100 balls up in the air at the same time. This book is a realistic look at life in the 21st century and how by trying to be a jack of all trades you can run into problems.

This is a great look at life but also has some practical tips on how you can change the way you think about life to actually achieve and do more.

The book has some great short term ideas...one of which I did this morning! But also the book looks more long term about what you really want to do with your life.

A really great easy read that makes you think....
