For Last Year's Words Belong To Last Year's Language And Next Year's Words Await Another Voice - T.S. Eliot
What Are We Up To This Week?

This week I am in Africa climbing up Mount Kilimanjaro. In fact, when you get this I will be on the first day of the climb so will be baking at 40 degrees at the bottom of the mountain!

I am not back from Africa for 10 days so everything else is on hold really!

I am glad to say that after posting the link last week for the new home breakthrough product, people have been on the site, purchased it and started working through it. Thanks especially to those who have mailed to say that they are now understanding why they do what they do! Ultimately that is the key to change!

If you need a hand in 2009 to really change the way you think about food then take a look

We have a few places left on the course in January in Chesham. If you want to really do some great stuff that will help you move on with your weight issues, and your clients', if you work in the weight management field, then come along! It is the 24th/25th January. We also have one in Essex in February.

Issue: # 24 January 3rd 2009
Newsletter
Greetings!

I hope you had fantastic New Year celebrations and are looking at 2009 with optimism, opportunity and a smile on your face!

Looking back on 2008, I hope you can see all the good things that you did, and can use everything you have learnt from this year to really push yourself onwards and upwards in 2009, whatever area you want to develop and grow.

This week's article is about learning from your past, planning for your future, but most importantly, living in the present. It follows a long conversation with a client earlier this week who was totally focussed on her past. She was forgetting that everything from now on is brand new and she is in control of making that, so it's actually very very good that the past is just that, the past!

Finally, before I go I want to thank everyone who created their big five and sent them over! I am glad to say that I have already done one of mine by resigning formally from my day job yesterday to go and work on exciting new projects. I am feeling really excited and buzzed about 2009. For everyone who mailed their lists, remember to mail me as you go and do each of them, and let me know how good it feels afterwards to look back at how well you did!

I hope 2009 is an amazing year for you and your families.

Learn From The Past, Plan For The Future But Live For The Present

Focussing On Past Failures Will Mean You Have To Feel Bad And Then Fail Again

It is very, very common for dieters to focus totally on the fact they are overweight. Because you put weight on in the past, then you will focus on the past. When I speak to dieters, they are always talking about how they lost weight before and put it back on, or that they have tried numerous diets in the past.

The key to success is not to feel the emotion of the past. You need to get rid of the negative thoughts about yourself and your weight and just take learnings from the past. So, for example, if in the past you had a very stressful job and overate because of it, instead of beating yourself up over being big and what a failure you are, you just need to learn that you have an emotional link between stress and food and remove the emotion.

Therefore, if you have failed at diets in the past then learn from them. What went wrong? What could you have done better? What do you need to do to succeed the next time? The most successful people in the world are often actually those that fail the most. The difference is that every time they fail, they learn what went wrong and get up and do it better the next time, until they succeed.

If you spend your life just focussing on what a failure you are then you constantly feel the emotions related to failing, and therefore never change what you do, learn from what went wrong and don't move on.

The other common thing with dieters are daydreamers. These are the people who focus on the future and have a perfect picture of what they want to look like. The problem is they spend so much time dreaming of what they want that they don't actually take action in the present to get there.

Someone said to me on Christmas Day that one chocolate doesn't do any harm, but actually, if you want to be slim and you have, let's say, five stone to lose, then yes it does! I spent fifteen years just having a nibble here, and a nibble there and it got me to a size where I struggled to walk up a set of stairs. Therefore, if you want, and need, to lose weight then live in the present and take action now.

Do you live in the present? Are you living for today? Or do you spend a lot of time focussing on what is wrong from your past? Or do you dream of something but never take action?

If you do, then until you live in the present and take action now, nothing will change. As soon as you realise you are the secret, you are the magic and you are in control of your own life and destiny, that's the day when food suddenly becomes no issue for you.

Have a great weekend.

The Bible Of Food 2009
CBThe Definitive List

When I first lost weight I had a version of this which was fantastic. It covers everything I ever ate. For the first few months after reducing weight, it's a great way to learn about what is healthy. It also looks at the most common mistake people make, portion control.

The best resource in a book on what calories and nutrition are in food. An absolute must have book for anyone who wants to learn to eat a healthy balanced diet with the correct amount of calories!
