Happiness Is Not A Matter Of Events, It Depends Upon The Tides Of The Mind - Alice Meynall
What Are We Up To This Week?

I just got back from Cork in Ireland at 4am this morning so I'm tired, but was a great trip so glad I went!

This week is going to be a strange week for me with some huge changes in my life. I have made some big decisions in the last week or two and this week is all about going with what I want to do with my life and letting go of some things that are holding me back. I know that all sounds very cryptic, it isn't meant to, so I will explain next week what I meant.

Had a great weekend at a weight management conference and met some great people and was talking about the Weight Management Coaching Course.

Since then I have confirmed another date!

So we are now running a course in Brentwood, Essex on the 10th and 11th Of February 2009. This is alongside the course in Chesham on the weekend of the 24th and 25th January.

If you really want to make a big difference with weight, and actually help people maintain long term by getting them to think differently about their weight, and themselves, then please come along. The feedback from all the people who have trained so far is that the results they are getting are totally different and much more positive !

If you need more info or want to book on then check out

Or give Melissa a call on 01494 790890 and she can sort you out!

Apart from that, still bowling....well, when I say bowling, I mean I attempt to get the round thing to hit the skittle things but rarely do all ten of them fall over at the same time :-)

Newsletter
Greetings!

Hello :-)

Hope you had a good week, and are having a weekend getting ready for Xmas and generally enjoying this time of year, which always has a "feel good" factor about it.

I spent last weekend at a weight conference chatting to loads of counsellors and dieters about the mindset of dieting, and how long term weight maintenance really does mean you must find an alternative way of getting the emotional benefits that food gives you.

I was chatting with a girl who had done amazingly well and had reduced her weight by over ten stone. She finished in the summer. Within ten seconds of meeting her she apologised for the amount of food she had on her plate! She then said that she was so proud to be "keeping the weight off" three times within a few sentences.

I asked her, "So just how much do you fear putting the weight back on?"

She replied "Every minute of every day....."

I asked her if it was OK to post this on the newsletter and she said it was. When we talked it through, she basically said she was more unhappy after reducing her weight than she was before as at least before she could always eat to cheer up! It was like talking to myself three years ago....she was just realising that slim doesn't mean happy which is where I ran into problems and had a breakdown.

If you are "keeping weight off" then you are concentrating yet again on something you don't want! If you focus on keeping it off, I promise you, that you are likely to be on a diet for the rest of your life. For the first few months after I got to goal weight I lived in absolute fear of being big again. Which, for me, was no way to live my life as I wanted to be happy! Whether you will be slim for the rest of your life, then maybe, but do you want to be dieting forever? I know lots of people who are slim but basically diet most of the week and then eat at the weekends. That is absolutely fine if they are happy and it works for them. When I ask them, they are obsessed with food and therefore, are they really happy? Surely, happy is a better goal in life than being slim.

As a final thought, this week's newsletter came out of a discussion with some at about 5am in the morning at this conference, they were asking me what the "secret" was to being slim. I was telling them the obvious answer, that there isn't one! I then got her to play a game, which she did. It opened up her thinking to what she needed to do, so the article this week is to allow you to play the same game and see if it helps you!

Have an amazing week and talk next Saturday!

Mike :-)
So Tell Our Listeners What The Key Was?

What Was The Biggest Change In Your Life That Made All The Difference?

As you are reading this let yourself really relax.

Imagine for me, that you are slim and have just reduced your weight. After spending maybe a few years "struggling", you have finally got your mindset right, have reduced your weight, are at goal weight and look fantastic. You are healthy and this time you just know that you will be slim and happy and get on with the rest of your life without ever having to worry about your weight again.

A TV show call you as they have heard how amazingly well you have done and they have invited you onto the show as an inspiration to other people with weight issues.

As you go onto the show looking amazing, and feeling like the world is your oyster, you sit down and the interview starts....

The presenter asks you about your past, about how you got overweight etc etc.

Then the presenter asks the key question....

"So tell me, can you let our viewers know what the key was? What was the secret to reducing your weight, what did you do that unlocked the doors to being healthy and slim?"

So what is your answer?

What was your gut feeling?

What came into your head?

What change do you really know you must make if you want to really be slim and happy?

Everyone knows why they got big! Never met anyone who didn't, therefore, you are the expert of you! You know what the real issues are and why you are where you are. So instead of beating yourself up, why not just do something different and succeed!

The little exercise above works really well as making yourself listen to yourself, you can't not answer the question, as your mind is active and wants to play!

When I did this with a friend at the conference it went like this...

Me : So what was the key? What is the secret? Tell the listeners

Her : Well Eamonn :-) the biggest thing for me was my job. I had a really stressful job and I used to eat and drink after work to help me through the week.

Me: Ok! So you changed your job? What new job did you start?

Her : I opened a florist...always wanted to do that...

Then the game ended..

She smiled!

And said she hates her job, and wants to do something with people and something artistic, whereas now she pushes paper about!

So what was her real problem? Was it really food? Or was it that she wasn't happy with her job so used food as a sticky plaster to try and help her be happier?

She played the game, she imagined what she really wanted, and her body language just lit up when she said she wanted to be a florist and give up accountancy.

She may or may not go and do that now, but at least she realises what it is all truly about. It is never that you just like food too much, food is never the real problem.

Have a great week

Mike :-)
