As you are reading this let yourself really relax.
Imagine for me, that you are slim and have just reduced your weight. After spending maybe a few years "struggling", you have finally got your mindset right, have reduced your weight, are at goal weight and look fantastic. You are healthy and this time you just know that you will be slim and happy and get on with the rest of your life without ever having to worry about your weight again.
A TV show call you as they have heard how amazingly well you have done and they have invited you onto the show as an inspiration to other people with weight issues.
As you go onto the show looking amazing, and feeling like the world is your oyster, you sit down and the interview starts....
The presenter asks you about your past, about how you got overweight etc etc.
Then the presenter asks the key question....
"So tell me, can you let our viewers know what the key was? What was the secret to reducing your weight, what did you do that unlocked the doors to being healthy and slim?"
So what is your answer?
What was your gut feeling?
What came into your head?
What change do you really know you must make if you want to really be slim and happy?
Everyone knows why they got big! Never met anyone who didn't, therefore, you are the expert of you! You know what the real issues are and why you are where you are. So instead of beating yourself up, why not just do something different and succeed!
The little exercise above works really well as making yourself listen to yourself, you can't not answer the question, as your mind is active and wants to play!
When I did this with a friend at the conference it went like this...
Me : So what was the key? What is the secret? Tell the listeners
Her : Well Eamonn :-) the biggest thing for me was my job. I had a really stressful job and I used to eat and drink after work to help me through the week.
Me: Ok! So you changed your job? What new job did you start?
Her : I opened a florist...always wanted to do that...
Then the game ended..
She smiled!
And said she hates her job, and wants to do something with people and something artistic, whereas now she pushes paper about!
So what was her real problem? Was it really food? Or was it that she wasn't happy with her job so used food as a sticky plaster to try and help her be happier?
She played the game, she imagined what she really wanted, and her body language just lit up when she said she wanted to be a florist and give up accountancy.
She may or may not go and do that now, but at least she realises what it is all truly about. It is never that you just like food too much, food is never the real problem.
Have a great week
Mike :-)
