You Cannot Teach A Man Anything, You Can Only Help Him Discover It Within Himself - Galileo Galilei
What Are We Up To This Week?

Well what a week that was! Real People very kindly published an article on Jo and I, but decided to sensationalise the story by creating headlines that were a load of rubbish and not actually true! Made me realise that some people really do value money over morals but I like to sleep at night knowing I am helping others and not hurting them!

Saying that, glad to say the magazine have now apologised for the headlines and have offered Jo, the kids and I a free weekend at Centre Parcs so every cloud has a silver lining!!

In terms of business stuff then the Weight Management Coaching Courses are going really well! We are now planning one in Scotland in April 2009 and down South as well. If you fancy meeting up for a few days and really going over why dieters do what they do, and working with Steve and I personally, then get in touch!

More details of the course are at

On a personal note I had a rather ridiculous score of 182 at bowling last night which is my best score in years! So well chuffed with that.

If you are on Facebook then I have created a group on there so feel free to join and say Hi! at

Newsletter
Greetings!

Hope you had a really positive week and achieved everything you wanted to and had lots of fun along the way.

Now, did you do what you said you would do from last week's newsletter? Do you even remember that you were going to do something, or that I even mentioned it?

If you did it then brilliant, well done you! Bet you are glad that it is now done and out of the way.

If you didn't do it then brilliant, you made a choice to do something else instead. Don't beat yourself up, realise that you made a choice in not doing it, just as you would have done if you had have got it out of the way.

When I was big I used to constantly beat myself up for not doing things, not just weight related either. I used to call myself lazy and say that I couldn't be bothered to do things, but I was just very good at being lazy and very good at procrastinating! In fact,, I would say I was an expert when it came to not doing things so I take pride in that! From now on I want to learn to do other things as I think I have peaked with my sofa skills.

The key though to change in your life is taking responsibility for who you are and why you are the way you are, and only you can actually change you! It fascinates me why some people choose to change and some people don't. I was always fascinated as to why I let myself get so big I had chest pains everytime I walked up a set of stairs but then suddenly, at 32 years old, I decided to change. The fact is that there is no secret to any of this, you just need to decide to change, come up with a plan of change and then go and do it.

Before I go I just want to thank a few people who have really helped me over the last couple of years as I wouldn't be where I am without them, firstly to Jo my wife, she has supported me through thick and thin (literally!) and loves me as much today as she did when we worked together as teenagers in Safeway! Also a big thank you to Linda who been a great support for the past couple of years, and finally to Steve who I now work with, Steve helped me deal with my true problems and although he never really knew the content he made me realise it is ok to let the emotion go and see the world for the fantastic place it truly is and for that I will always be greatful.

I never really spoke about it but I had a nervous breakdown 2 years ago when I first finished dieting. I had all my problems in my life but couldn't eat anymore to cheer up, therefore I fell to pieces, it was through the support of my true friends and family that I sorted myself out and my intention now to help others is based on my own knowledge that you can go from despair and thoughts of the dark side through to being a happy person who lives in the present and can't wait to see what the future holds.

Have a fantastic week as always!! (and E-Mail me if you want to say hello!!)

Take care

Mike :-)
Don't Mess With Me!

Nobody Argues With A Big Guy!

I spent most of my time working with ladies over guys as the diet industry tends to be that way, and hence I get asked a lot about the differences between men and women and the mindset of both.

In general the reasons behind why either sex get big is actually very similar and the more I see different people the more I see the same issues coming up again and again.

But, and this is a generalisation, there usually is one big difference between men and women when it comes to being overweight, and it was the same in my case when I was big.

For me, being big was useful as it made me believe I was tough as well. Therefore, if anyone wanted to pick on me or my family then I was this big lump of muscle that could protect and save them. The reality of course was totally different, but in my mind I thought if I was slim then I would be weak and hence get picked on. So for me one of the benefits of staying big was that it allowed me to be noticed!

Having spoken to a lot of female dieters it tends to be the other way round, by being big they actually perceive themselves as becoming invisible to the world, therefore one of the benefits of being big to them can be that they don't receive unwanted attention from the opposite sex.

Now, as I said, this is not the same for everyone. I always look for why people choose to do what they do and hence most people don't look for the benefits of why they are big, or the reasons why they don't really want to be slim.

I remember back in April 2006 going into Tesco and returning a CD album. I had just finished reducing weight and asked for my money back as the CD didn't play. The lady refused and said that they wouldn't give me my money back and would only give me a voucher. I suddenly felt very strange, the big Mike would never get refused a refund, I would ask once and get the money and hence suddenly I had lost my "super powers" and I felt helpless.

It was actually one of the episodes that really wobbled my foundations. I felt lost in my new body as the benefits of the big me had gone. I just left it and went home but it took me a few days to stop thinking about it.

So turning this to you, everyone knows why they should be slim and healthy, I don't think anyone can say that it isn't a good idea to be a good weight, but what if there was a good reason not to be that weight? What if you are a guy and need that percieved toughness? Or a girl that just wants to walk around unnoticed with your 'big' cloak on?

If you don't deal with that problem then you are unlikely to get to goal weight. If you do you will find that you don't feel like you expect to. Therefore, really take some time to look inside, do you actually get any benefit of being overweight? Or are you scared of being slim and what that might mean?

The good thing of course is by realising what the benefits are then you can replace them! For me, I went to the gym and built up my upper body so I was tougher than I ever was when I was big, and even though I haven't had any trouble since I reduced my weight, I am certainly more capable of running away now than I was then.

So, if you do get benefit from being big then what can you do to replace that and allow yourself to be the healthy, happy person you deserve to be?

Have a brilliant week!!

Relax And Unwind!
CD
Stressed?

Something totally different this week!!

This is a brilliant CD that Jo bought me that basically relaxes you and allows you to really unwind, it says it does brainwaves and bits but to be honest I just found that it really allowed me to go off to a nice place and de-stress.

Therefore if you know you are a stress eater then I recommend this and a pair of headphones and just float away on the gorgeous sounds!
