Greetings! ,
The Religious Response Is Heard!
Well done! Our faithful witness in support of the EPA's new standards to limit carbon pollution was part of a record-breaking, historic TWO MILLION people sending in comments to the EPA from citizens throughout the United States. That's enough people to fill the baseball parks in the United States with people saying 'NO' to polluters and 'YES' to clean air. Ohio came in second, only to California, with the number of comments submitted. Thank you for responding to all our action alerts and making the religious voice heard.

Welcome Shanay Johnson!
We welcome Shanay Johnson to the OhIPL Leadership Team as the Seminary Students Chair. Shanay is a graduate student at Trinity Seminary in Columbus, Ohio, currently working towards a dual Masters degree in Church Music and Theological Studies. She has been an active participant of the on-campus Earth Care group known as SEEDS and is also a member of the Columbus Symphony Chorus. When she is not studying or writing papers you can find her on long walks, playing the piano, checking the news, or writing in one of her many journals.
Shanay will be assisting us in our outreach efforts to seminary students throughout Ohio.
Read Shanay's blog post (Ministry and Mining in Appalachia) on our website about her journey to Kayford Mountain in West Virginia to learn about Mountaintop Removal from activist Larry Gibson. Click here.

Updates From Earth Connection!

On June 15th, the OhIPL Leadership Team met at EarthConnection in Cincinnati for a day of reflection and inspiration. EarthConnection was begun by Sister Paula Gonzalez, co-founder and board member of OhIPL, as an environmental learning center where tours, internships, and environmental educational programs have been conducted. Located on the grounds of her congregation's motherhouse, the EarthConnection Center was completed in 1995 and is an impressive showcase for various renewable-energy technologies including daylighting, passive and active solar thermal, grid-tied photovoltaic and geoexchange energy systems.
We were also pleased to have had the opportunity to tour Sister Paula's home which is a former chicken barn that she has transformed into "La Casa del Sol," a 1,200 square foot super-insulated, passive-solar house where the practice of "reuse" is fully apparent.

A special treat was a ride on Sister Paula's infamous solar-powered golf cart. We were all inspired by Sister Paula's lessons in renewal energy, living with a low carbon footprint, and the interconnectedness of the web of creation.
At the retreat, members of the Leadership Team were able to take the time to reflect on several questions in preparation for a strategic planning process in the Fall. We look forward to gathering your input over the next several months as we consider OhIPL's mission into the future.
