Eco-Film Series
movie
  Greetings!

Beginning in November, the Dayton International Peace Museum will host environmental film presentations from 10 am until noon on the second Saturday of each month. Some of the films will be provocative, some controversial - all will be thought-provoking and inspire conversation and response.

Join neighbors and concerned citizens in the Holbrooke Peace Hall [behind the Museum] to view and discuss films on a variety of issues challenging our environment and our physical well-being.

The Peace Museum is located at 208 West Monument Avenue, Dayton, OH 45402 and can be reached via telephone (937-227-3223) or internet (daytonpeacemuseum.org) for more information. Free parking is available next to Holbrooke Peace Hall. Cosponsors of the series include the Peace Museum, Ohio Interfaith Power and Light, and Creation Connection of the Greater Dayton Christian Connection.  For full information, click here.

Leaps and Bounds
Two performances  are scheduled for Columbus OH in November. The Affording Hope Project presents this one woman show which explores the intersection of faith, ecology, and the global economy, developed and performed by Tevyn East.

Using a number of creative tools including storytelling, song, poetry, prayer, movement, and music, this work of theater sheds light on the driving factors of our ecological crisis while awakening the imagination to a new way of living with and relating to Earth. Grounded in theological reflection, Leaps and Bounds, embodies an adventure, searching for the values that would support an economic system that promotes human well-being and ecological health. The first performance of Leaps and bounds is at 7:30pm on Nov. 10th, at Summit UMC, 82 E 16th Ave (Summit on 16th)- the second is at 6:30pm on Nov 13th,
leapsin the Great Hall at the OSU Student Union.

Come and "see this magical performance and find yourself laughing, humming and crying; and wanting to understand more about how our faith can inform our vision ... that will move us to action." [The Rev. Dennis J. Parker, Campus Minister - Portland State University, Portland OR]
Prairie Dedication
prairie
On October 9, 2011, the Marianist Environmental Education Center (MEEC) celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the prairie at Mount St. John in Dayton OH.
The prairie was named in honor of Marianist Brother Don Geiger (pictured above), professor emeritus of biology at the University of Dayton and initiator of the prairie project. Brother Don has managed the prairie with the help of staff and volunteers for 25 years.
In 1991, he founded MEEC to teach others to restore native ecosystems. Part of 17,000 square miles of prairie covering Ohio prior to European settlement, the Geiger Prairie like much of this native habitat succumbed to farming in the 19th century. In 1985, a 14-acre, 40-foot deep borrow pit was dug on Mount St. John to harvest 100,000 cubic yards of sand and gravel for I-675 construction. After the excavation, the soil in the pit was thin and rocky, its pH was 100 times normal levels, and no seed bank was present.
To repair the land, seeds of an Eastern tallgrass prairie were sown in 1986. With careful fire and land management, the area flourished and grew into the prairie ecosystem it is today. The Geiger Prairie can be seen from I-675 and visited through MEEC at 4435 E. Patterson Road, Dayton OH 45430. For information on the Prairie and MEEC call 937-429-3582 or go online at: http://meec.udayton.edu/.

Saturday, March 31, 2012
OSU 4-H Center

You are invited to attend an Earthkeeping Summit sponsored by the Ohio Interfaith Power and Light, The School of Environment and Natural Resources at OSU, and OSU Climate Change Outreach Team, on March 31, 2012, at the 4-H Center at Ohio State University.

Over the past two years, the challenges of climate, energy, and environmental stewardship work have become even more pressing. At the summit, we will raise up the challenges of energy, climate, and environment work that we've all been facing, and revisit the moral and ethical foundations upon which our response stands.
