ICM Header NEW small

People of faith are called by that faith
to speak for all children.
June 7, 2011

Much like the children we serve,

ICM needs YOU to survive.

Greetings,

Maybe you weren't there when Governor Deal signed House Bill 200--the "Freedom from Human Trafficking Act"-- into law, but ICM was there for you.  We also were at the Capitol helping legislators understand the need to reform Georgia's children's code.  And ICM was in faith communities and community centers across the state this year, raising awareness and support for our children who are at risk for the "school to prison pipeline."  ICM celebrated grassroots partnerships between faith communities and schools which created new programs of care for children in need.

Georgia has long needed a more comprehensive human trafficking bill that protects our children.  During the 2011 legislative session, some wondered if our legislators would enact a law that supported Georgia children who fall victim to child sex trafficking.  ICM did not cease in calling for a change in the state's existing, but inadequate, human trafficking laws.  In the passage of HB 200, we witnessed an overwhelming victory for the thousands of children who are sold for sex in Atlanta and cities and towns across our state.

Like many nonprofits, the nation's financial crisis has stretched our lean budget.  We need your support today to continue our critical work.  A monthly tax-deductible gift of $25.00 may bring the next breakthrough for children in the Georgia legislature.  A one-time gift of $100, added to the gifts of other supporters, will enable ICM to offer educational sessions on child poverty, child sexual exploitation, juvenile justice, immigration, children's health care, parental nurture and other issues that impact the well-being of our children.  Whatever the size of your gift, know that it will be used to bring together people and communities of all faiths to do what needs to be done for Georgia's children.

Please click here now to make a secure, on-line, tax-deductible contribution.  Do what must be done... GIVE to ICM today.

Thank you for your support!

TWO AWARDS DEMONSTRATE CONFIDENCE AND APPRECIATION FOR ICM'S WORK

The Interfaith Children's Movement (ICM) began a decade ago this year, with people from many faith traditions coalescing around the idea that ALL children deserve justice, love and compassion, and that faith communities should lead society toward that goal.

Over the years, ICM volunteers have organized and educated the members of their faith communities, encouraging them to work together on behalf of children who have no voices of their own.  At ICM meetings and activities, Jews, Christians, Muslims, Hindus - every religious tradition - have made friends and worked together on behalf of children.

Along the way, ICM has become an acknowledged partner among the state's children's advocacy nonprofits.  Some of these nonprofits are strong in policy development.  The Interfaith Children's Movement is strong in raising awareness, educating the interfaith community and generating powerful constituent voices to get good policy turned into good laws for children.

Two recent awards have demonstrated the confidence and appreciation which organizations have for the strength of ICM's voice.  ICM received the Sapelo Foundation Smith Bagley Advocacy Grant Award for 2010.  The award acknowledges the role ICM has played as a member of the JUSTGeorgia coalition in building support across Georgia for restorative justice and the re-write of the state's juvenile code.  ICM was presented with the award by Phyllis Bowen, Executive Director of The Sapelo Foundation, on April 12, 2011, at ICM's annual "Coming Together for All Children" Welcome and Rededication.

Pamela Perkins Carn, ICM's Coordinator, was given the Human Rights Award by Cobb County's league of Church Women United.  Pamela's dedicated leadership of the Interfaith Children's Movement and her commitment to safe and healthy children were acknowledged by her receiving the award.  The ceremony took place May 6, 2011, at Zion Baptist Church in Marietta, GA.

The ICM Board of Directors extends a sincere and grateful thanks to The Sapelo Foundation and Church Women United of Cobb County for these expressions of support and for their commitment to making Georgia a place where all children can fulfill their greatest potential.

SPIRITUAL WITNESS FOR CHILDREN
Prayer
One of the most important things faith communities can do for children is to pray for them.

Every child is a child of God and deserves justice and compassion. Every child deserves our prayers.

ICM encourages every faith community to become a spiritual witness for children. Hold a worship service in your church, synagogue, mosque or temple and invite others to join in praying for the well-being of all children.
ICM Mission and Goals

The Interfaith Children's Movement (ICM) is an interfaith, grassroots, advocacy movement dedicated to improving the well-being of children in Georgia.  ICM was formed in 2001 as an intentional association of individuals and communities of faith from all religious traditions.

The Interfaith Children's Movement strives to be a voice for all Georgia children, but especially the poor and marginalized whose voices are often unheard.

ICM works closely with Georgia's policy-oriented child advocacy organizations, such as:

These organizations help set the agenda for our work for children at the policy level.  ICM's faith community members provide a megaphone to the legislature about what needs to be done for children.
