ICM'S GENERAL MEETING TO BE HELD TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 17
Topic: Child Sexual Exploitation
and Trafficking in Georgia
ICM's next general membership meeting will be held Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at Druid Hills United Methodist Church, 1200 Ponce de Leon Avenue, Atlanta. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.
According to a study conducted by A Future.Not a Past., anywhere from 200-300 girls each month are victims of child prostitution in Georgia. This meeting will be dedicated to learning more about this growing victimization of children in this state and the on-going efforts to stop its spread.
Guest panelists will include:

- Cheryl Deluca-Johnson, StreetGRACE
- Angel Vickers, Wellspring Living

| ACTION ITEM: Upcoming Hearing on SB 292: The Child Protection and Public Safety Act
As a member of the JUSTGeorgia coalition, ICM is calling on you to help us bring juvenile code reform to Georgia. The next pre-session Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on SB 292: The Child Protection and Public Safety Act is scheduled for Thursday, November 19, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., in Room 307 of the Coverdell Legislative Office Building (CLOB). CLOB is loated at 18 Capitol Square, Atlanta, GA 30334.
This hearing will focus on Article 3: Deprivation. The "Deprivation" article applies to children who have suffered from abuse or neglect.
The Child Protection and Public Safety Act is a comprehensive reform of Georgia's current Juvenile Code. Not only does it bring order and clarity to the Code, it calls for restorative justice for Georgia's children.
We need your supportive presence at these hearings. Also, contact your state legislators and let them know that you support juvenile code reform and JUSTGeorgia.

JUVENILE JUSTICE MATTERS: U.S. SUPREME COURT DELIBERATES "LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE FOR JUVENILES" |
On November 9, 2009, the U.S. Supreme Court took on the issue of juveniles receiving a sentence of life without parole. The Court heard two Florida cases. An account of that hearing can be found at NPR.

One of the most important things faith communities can do for children is to pray for them.
Every child is a child of God and deserves justice and compassion. Every child deserves our prayers.
ICM encourages every faith community to become a spiritual witness for children. Hold a worship service in your church, synagogue, mosque or temple and invite others to join in praying for the well-being of all children. |

The Interfaith Children's Movement was formed in 2001 as an intentional association of individuals and communities of faith from all religious traditions.
The Interfaith Children's Movement strives to be a voice for all Georgia children, but especially the poor and marginalized whose voices are often unheard.

Dr. Luther E. Smith, Jr. will be honored by Voices for Georgia's Children, Friday, November 13, 2009, as a "Big Voice for Children" award recipient. Dr. Smith is a founding member of ICM and the immediate past chair of ICM's board of directors.

Your help is still needed.
Answer this call from ICM to provide books and snacks to the children of Clarkdale Elementary School in Austell, Georgia.
The teachers lost hundreds (perhaps thousands) of books in the flood. These books were in their personal classroom libraries.
The children also need snacks (healthy ones). As one teacher has written on her school Web page, while the children are settling into their new environment at Austell Intermediate, "Our new lunch time is 10:48, and the students are hungry again in the afternoon. Crackers and snack mix are very popular in our class."

Georgia Center for Child Advocacy hosts an open Darkness to Light sexual abuse prevention training on the fourth Wednesday of every month at the Fulton office. The training teaches adults to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. The cost is $15 per person, which includes training materials, snacks and refreshments. The training is approved for CEUs for social workers, LPCs, nurses and early childhood education providers. All are welcome to attend. Please call to register: 678-904-2880.
