CALL TO ACTION!
ICM Hosts JUSTGeorgia Coalition Regional Meeting TOMORROW:
Reforming Georgia's Juvenile Code

ICM is hosting a JUSTGeorgia Coalition regional meeting on the effort to bring juvenile code reform to Georgia in the form of Senate Bill 292: The Child Protection and Public Safety Act.  The meeting will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta at 1911 Cliff Valley Way, Atlanta, 30329.

It has taken 40 years for the need for reform to be addressed in an intentional manner.  In those 40 years, we have seen the horrible consequences of having a juvenile code--
-  that is not based on best practices and the latest research in child development;
-  that has been patched with amendments;
-  that is unclear to the legal community and unfair to our children.

We need your attendance and your participation in this statewide effort to correct the mistakes of our past and move into the future with a set of laws that will assist our judicial system in governing with great wisdom and humanity.  Our judicial system is only as fair and just as we, the people, allow it to be.  It is time that we realize the devastating impact of our collective silence.

To those of you who have been involved in this endeavor, your presence is needed.  You have the important role of helping to dispel the fog of misunderstanding that drifts into conversations when the truth is not readily available.

This is a sincere appeal to all of you to join us tomorrow and to bring someone with you.  (We will be serving dinner (healthy and free) from 5:45 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.)

We cannot afford to take this opportunity for granted.  We cannot be the cause of our children having to wait another 40 years.
