Moving Forward by Giving Back Recognition and Educational Program - April 3
The current economic climate may be unlike any we have known; yet even difficult times present opportunities. One meaningful way to remain open to new opportunities is by giving back. Through volunteer service, we can develop new competencies, expand our network, and foster goodwill among employees and external stakeholders, while gaining the personal satisfaction of working for something we consider important or want to improve. Learn more and be inspired at AWCNJ's Moving Forward by Giving Back Education and Recognition Breakfast Program on April 3. We'll also be presenting our first Women Who Will Award to Judy Chapman, founding editor of Garden State Woman magazine. For more information and to register, click here.

Working Matters
Diane M. Byrne - A Change of Course Put New Wind in My Sails
DianeBryneI became a freelance writer and blogger (writing about yachts) for a few reasons, one of which was to have more control over my work-life balance. Having commuted into New York City for nearly 20 years, and working for big public companies that made "efficiencies" that inefficiently increased workloads, I was stressed out. I had no problem with working hard, but I longed to be able to work smart. So, I made my long-planned career change last year. It was the best decision of my life. While I start answering e-mails around 7:30 each morning, I get more done in a shorter amount of time overall than I ever did in the office. I actually sit at lunchtime and eat a normal meal -- no more scarfing down a sandwich over my keyboard. And I promised myself from day one that I would turn off my PC by 5 or so each day, making sure I go to the gym or just watch the news. The funny thing is, the improved quality of my life has also improved the quality of my work. And best of all, I love what I do.
