Greetings!
Scott Geib
Egret by Scott Geib

September brings a quiet calm to Beaufort.  The crowds are gone... but the weather is even more beautiful than ever.

The town may be quieter, but the restaurants and shops are all open to welcome you.  We love this time of year.... it gives us a better chance to know you.

Come visit, stroll the boardwalk, watch the birds and the ponies, and enjoy Beaufort Calm.

Abigail Poray
Beaufort artist and Marine Biologist Abigail Poray demonstrates her love of algae in her unique jewelry:

"A biologist at heart, my education and interests have focused on marine habitats, in particular algae. Algae are often viewed in a negative light, as clumps of slime or the villains of coral reefs. However, in many cases algae create beautiful and ecologically healthy underwater gardens, full of life and grace.

It was while working toward my masters in Marine Biology in 2008, at the California State University Northridge, that I not only fell in love with marine algae but started investigating different ways of integrating it into art. Visually and artistically, algae (seaweeds) are truly diverse and unique subjects. My work involves capturing the striking colors and forms of algae into unique adornments that can be admired by everyone.

All the algal specimens used in my work are collected by either myself or colleagues of mine who share the same appreciation for its beauty. Each specimen is scientifically identified, individually pressed, preserved and selected based on its color and form. Once prepared, specimens are carefully sealed within a resin cast that is then shaped to enhance its features. Through my work I hope to open up this unknown world to most people and help develop a greater appreciation for what nature can create."

 Antoine Anole
Antoine

This little Anole, whom we have named Antoine, lives on our back porch.  He is not a bit shy, and visits us every afternoon as we sit watching the water. He is, as you can see, quite flirtatious.  We enjoy his company, too.
We hope you have enjoyed our newsletter and we would love for you to come see us!
