"People discuss my art and pretend to understand as if it were necessary to understand, when it's simply necessary to love."

Feral Friends
The Banker Ponies
Carrot Island and Shackleford Banks, two islands off of Beaufort's coast, are home to herds of feral horses.
The origins of the horses are a bit mysterious. Many people belive them to be descendants of Spanish horses from the 16th century. Others believe the horses have a more recent history.
The horses are free roaming, feeding on the vegetation that grows on the islands. The ponies find freshwater in ponds and seeps on the islands, occasionally digging holes to access water. To learn more about the Banker Ponies visit the

Catherine Weitzman Born and raised in New York, Catherine Weitzman received a classical education in jewelry making in Italy. She spent the next 5 years traveling all over the world with her husband. She was influenced greatly by contact with jewelers from Asia, the Middle East, South America, and Australia. In 2000, Catherine returned to the US and began her jewelry studio in California. She currently resides and makes jewelry in Hawaii.
Catherine's jewelry is influenced by her travels and is inspired by the five elements.... earth, air, fire, water, and space. Many of her designs are cast in precious metals directly from items found in nature: tree branches, shells, leaves, and flowers. Catherine works in sterling silver and 18k gold vermeil. While Catherine and her production team derive tremendous pleasure from creating the jewelry, their greatest satisfaction comes from sharing it with each individual who sees it, wears it, and makes it her own.

Ex Ovo
Katrin Zimmerman
Katrin, the designer of Ex Ovo, was born in Germany, and educated in Switzerland, England and China. Katrin came to New York for a vacation in 1991 and was immediately captured by the spirit of the city. The decision to study Jewelry Design at FIT in New York meant a complete change in the direction of her career. In 1992, she founded Ex Ovo, and in 1998 she was accepted to the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).

Katrin's strongest influence is the Art and Cultural Heritage of the Far East. The focus of her design aesthetic is reduction; the emphasis on the essence of a stone, an organic shape or the inherent qualities of a material, whether synthetic or natural. The idea is to bring out singularity through simplicity.

"The beauty of an object lies in its uniqueness. My pieces have an inner tension of asymmetry-something I love to emphasize in my designs. I also juxtapose materials: soft intimate leather with the clear brilliance of silver; the classicism of semi-precious stones modified with casual rubber. I am trying to redefine the reasons for wearing jewelry, to give it new meaning. Jewelry can say more about one's personality than most people acknowledge. It should never be an afterthought."
Ex Ovo is worn by Zaha Hadid, Arthur Cohen, Keith Richards and his dogs, Eartha Kitt, Liv Tyler, Noel Gallagher, Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf, Kate Moss, Lucie de la Falaise, Halle Berry, Nile Rodgers, Courtney Love, Rita Moreno, Britney Spears, and many others.
