Misha Zakhalov
Misha Zakhalov was born and trained in the former Soviet Union. After honing his design skills at the Odessa School of Art, he came to America in 1990. Specializing in challenging enamel processing methods, he began working for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, reproducing the intricate Faberge Egg designs.
He soon began creating original jewelry, eventually opening a retail store in New York's Greenwich Village. There, he enjoyed interacting with his customers and developed his unique style of jewelry.
Misha's jewelry is simple but dazzling. He uses beautiful natural stones, both semi-precious and precious. He weaves intricate settings for his stones, creating jewelry that is elegant, classic, and very wearable.
Misha is the recipient of many awards, including the prestigious Rising Stars of JCK award in 2009.
"To me, as an artist, there is no place like America." says Misha, "Nowhere else do you have the chance to observe such a mixture of cultures, to draw inspirations from such an endless range of influences. And, most importantly to me, there are always challenges to be met." |
Robin Beckett
Robin Beckett's fun and colorful pottery just makes it feel like Spring!
North Carolina potter Robin Beckett has had a love affair with pottery since the age of 8, when she visited a pottery studio in Florida and watched a ball of clay turn into a beautiful vase.
Robin studied ceramics at Appalachian State University. After graduation, she apprenticed with a production potter to hone her skills.
Since 1982, Robin has been making pottery in her studio outside Statesville, NC.

Robin continues to develop and grow by attending workshops with master potters including John Leach, Byron Temple, Mark Hewitt, Robin Hopper, and Jane Peiser. Robin's fun and colorful pottery is lead free, dishwasher safe, and fully functional.

"It boils down to lifetime love of making pots." says Robin. "I enjoy producing pot after pot on the wheel, and then, in contrast to the throwing, hand building embellishments to decorate them. It is a process: throw, decorate, fire, glaze, and fire again. Then the opportunity to interact with the YOU, the appreciator of a good pot, is a whole different aspect. It is a joy to work with customers on a custom set of dishes that they can treasure for years to come, or just to be able to supply a gift or treasured item for your home. It is a cycle that keeps balance in my work. About the time I finish one step, I am glad to move on to the next."
