Furry Friends The Honey Bee
"Bees, when looked at closely through a microscope, are actually quite hairy, and each hair is beautifully branched, much like a feather. This genetic advantage is a useful tool for collecting pollen."

A Bee Lover's Garden Mel Hughes and Jay Pfeil
Mel and Jay have collaborated on the Bee Lover's Garden Calendar in order to help raise money to support the much-needed research on Colony Collapse Disorder- the mysterious disappearance of our honey bee populations. While researchers are looking for the causes, honey bee populations around the world continue to decline at alarming rates. Given that more than a third of our food supply is dependent on pollination by honey bees,it is clear that this important research needs to continue.
The calendar is beautiful, as well, illustrated with Jay's wonderful garden watercolors. We are showing four pages from the calendar. To read an interview with Mel and Jay, and to learn more about this important issue, visit Mel and Jay's page. |
Sharon V Cipriano Art Heaven
Sharon V Cipriano creates dramatic jewelry from Argentium sterling silver and polymer clay. First, her signature pendants are acid-etched with patterns adapted from Japanese kimonos, antique manuscripts and other distinctive designs. She then transfers an image onto polymer clay using a process that creates a painterly effect resembling porcelain. This image is then mounted on the silver background.
The pendant images are drawn from Japanese woodblock prints, antique postcards, 18th century engravings and Sharon's own collection of vintage books and papers.
Each pendant comes with a sleek 15-strand sterling silver cable that complements the pendant and transforms it into a simple, elegant piece of wearable art. See more at Sharon V Cipriano
