Clementine

 Clementine

This month we thought we would inroduce you to Kate's dog, Clementine.

Clem was adopted from a county animal shelter.  The Humane Society of the United States estimates that 3-4 million animals are euthanized each year because of pet overpopulation.

If you are thinking of adding a loving companion to your family, please consider adopting a pet from an animal shelter or rescue organization.

(And yes, Clem is as sweet as she looks and is as soft as a bunny rabbit!)
Greetings!

All about Mistletoe

 Michael Michaud

We couldn't let this newlsetter go out without showing you Michael Michaud's wonderful mistletoe brooch.  It just makes you want to kiss someone!

So, where did the tradition of kissing under the mistletoe come from?  The custom originates in Scandinavian mythology with Baldur.  The Norse goddess Frigga was Baldur's mother.  When Baldur was born, she made every plant in the world promise never to harm her son, but she overlooked the lowly mistletoe.  The god of mischief, Loki, tricked one of the gods into killing Baldur with a spear made from mistletoe, an act which plunged the earth into winter.   The gods eventually restored Baldur to life, which caused Frigga to declare the mistletoe a sacred plant, a plant of love rather than death.  From this point on, any two people who passed under the mistletoe would kiss to commemorate Baldur's return.  It also became a plant of peace.  If two enemies passed beneath a mistletoe plant, they laid down their arms and declared a truce until the next day.

Have courage for the great sorrows of life and patience for the small ones; and when you have laboriously accomplished your daily task, go to sleep in peace. God is awake.
